Re: Roberston
Guess he wants to be a UFA in a year huh
Does this set him up to end up in Vegas? San Jose? LA Kings?
Other?
Biggest shoe I guess still to drop is Fantilli? Then maybe we see some roster filling moves yet.

Seguin will also be out next year and if Robertson wants $18 Mil-$20M, I doubt Dallas will do that with Rantanan at $12 Mil.

Re: Roberston
As in $12M is an internal cap because Rantanan is making $12M? Or because they don't want that much tied up among two players?Ventomiglia wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:29 pm Seguin will also be out next year and if Robertson wants $18 Mil-$20M, I doubt Dallas will do that with Rantanan at $12 Mil.
Robertson isn't signing for anything less than $12M unless he goes down the tubes.
If the Stars have an $12M internal cap with a rising cap, they can kiss their Cup hopes goodbye.

Re: Roberston
It they weren't open to it, they'd have traded him already. 12M is his floor, he's only going to earn a higher cap hit as the cap grows and his UFA looms.Ventomiglia wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:29 pm Seguin will also be out next year and if Robertson wants $18 Mil-$20M, I doubt Dallas will do that with Rantanan at $12 Mil.
Bedard got 15M, and I've got to think a power forward with three 40 goal seasons in six years, and a near ppg playoff rate, gets something similar. If he has another 40g/90pt year and makes it to UFA, I could easily see 17-18M.
They gave away Bourque just to have the long term space to extend JR. They're not going to get cold feet simply because they're already paying Rantanen 12M.
30M for two wingers? Only in TX

Re: Roberston
Seems like they likely agreed to visit things next year when Dallas has some cap space.
Interesting situation where the player probably wants to stay and the team likely wants the player but they can't go enough long term because of this years cap limitations

Re: Roberston
if you have almost a quarter of your cap tied up in 2 wingers, two extremely highly skilled wingers mind you, but two winger none the less, you are in a for a bad time.Section315 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:36 pmAs in $12M is an internal cap because Rantanan is making $12M? In theory for sure but they do already have centers locked up so maybe it worksTheJackBurton wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 23:38 pmif you have almost a quarter of your cap tied up in 2 wingers, two extremely highly skilled wingers mind you, but two winger none the less, you are in a for a bad time.Section315 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:36 pmAs in $12M is an internal cap because Rantanan is making $12M? Re: Roberston
Yeah that’s exactly what this is. He’ll be eligible to sign his big extension in January, and it’ll be higher than 12. They simply don’t have room for a bigger number this season with Seguin still taking a big chunk of cap space.

Re: Roberston
Clearly wanted to stay in Dallas so interesting it’s only for 1 year. This just kicks the can down the road 6-12 months. But as others have said, Dallas will have more room the following season so perhaps that’s the strategy here. Will be interested to see if it says a topic of discussion all season and maybe becomes a distraction through.
Reminder he turned down $180M over 8 years from Seattle. He’s gambling on himself here but that’s a lot of $$ to walk away from. Clearly had zero interest signing there to walk away from that sort of payday.

Not to nitpick but Seattle couldn't have offered him 180MM.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 02:54 am Clearly wanted to stay in Dallas so interesting it’s only for 1 year. Pretty sure it was 150MM.

they are showing 1.3 over, with 22 contracts on the books, so they will still have to make another move. Oddly enough Radek Faksa makes 2 million, and doesn't have any trade protection.

Re: Roberston
Well, hopefully, we can go out and kick some butt this year and make a run in the playoffs. That is what it will take to get some of these guys to start looking here.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:04 pm Guess he wants to be a UFA in a year huh

Biggest shoe I guess still to drop is Fantilli? Then maybe we see some roster filling moves yet.

Re: Roberston
To me it means he wants to stay in Dallas and he just gave them a good deal to keep him until next year when Dallas has the cash and can pay him to stay put.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:04 pm Guess he wants to be a UFA in a year huh

Could be wrong but that's what I'm thinking.

Re: Roberston
That would be wild if we did like a Faksa for Finley type move with them. Or Faksa for something similar.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 08:44 am they are showing 1.3 over, with 22 contracts on the books, so they will still have to make another move. Not sure Faksa would love that. But I loved him as a Blue.
Faksa is essentially what you hope Finley becomes. A physical 4C who wins 55% of his draws and plays tough D.

Re: Roberston
Very well could be the case. Could also be this is his ticket out.dhsux wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 12:23 pmTo me it means he wants to stay in Dallas and he just gave them a good deal to keep him until next year when Dallas has the cash and can pay him to stay put.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:04 pm Guess he wants to be a UFA in a year huh

He put himself in total control.
