Was it a wise move to announce the Cap plan for the next three years?
Does Carlsson get his same contract if they had done things differently?
Who/which party has this served the most and if the answer is players....why did the league do this?

Why are people so upset about this? Offer sheets make the league more interesting. It’s another way for a gm to add talent. It’s far preferable to gm’s talking about how hard it is to make a trade for half the season.

This. Owners wouldn't do it if it didnt help them. Showing the league is a good partner makes them a more attractive brand for advertisers, streaming services, prospective owners, etc.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑20 Jul 2026 09:35 amIf you were an investor looking to put money into the league via advertisement, television rights, or new franchise then it helps to know that the model is profitable.
It helps owners, with an ancillary benefit to top tier players and prospects timed to hit free agency during this window of certainty.

This helps teams in their Cup window know what they are working with in the near future to retain key players. I think this ultimately shrinks the UFA market of the number of key players that teams have to bid on.
But what it will do is open up the RFA market to some more interesting wheeling and dealing. It will make the offseason more interesting and newsworthy for the league in it's off time which benefits the league. Adds layers to what the gms both real and armchair get to muse about strategically to make their teams better. Philly was a team on the cusp looking to add a piece that would vault them forward. It didn't work but it was certainly the talk of the league for a week. Blues added two pieces that accelerated their retool/rebuild. Teams are going to have a lot more to consider when handing out contracts, managing prospects, etc. which makes the NHL more interesting to follow.

The NHL is having a great offseason, it’s more interesting than it’s been in sometime. The league is in great shape, Atlanta and Houston/Austin about to be announced as expansion cities. The owners are getting more cash in their pockets and the players are getting more cash in theirs. When the offseason is this exciting, it’s a great time for the fans of the games. The NHL is doing a fantastic job keeping the fans engaged during its offseason and I as a fan can’t ask for more than that.

When is the expansion supposed to happen? 2 teams picking players are going to gut some teams. Im worried the Blues might be one of them.

I just wanted to get a read on peoples thoughts on the matter.
By the answers here, I assume the league will continue with this policy.
