This is one of the first times that i have seen people actually talking sensibly about the financial state of the blues and the Stillman ownership group. Usually the fearful people take over the threads on this topic and spout nonsense. The Blues have been a cap team since Stillman has been here and the Blues have been an unbelievably profitable investment. This group is St louis through and through. No need to worry about the finances ... unless you just like to worry for worry sake.

Team is fine, ownership wise, but you are right about the cap.

Stillman has mentioned a growing cap could be trouble for the franchise to compete.

He's not a billionaire, he's one of the brokest owners in Sports. He has billionaires who back his bid, they do not write checks. they have a pice to say they own part of blues. Clowns on here still do not get it, Stillman is the guy who writes the checks, and he's a millionaire in a billionaires game.

ONly hope, is thee chick from enterprise buys more of the team, to be actively involved, or a billionaire who wants to invest and put money into the team, buys part of club.

tom stillman cannot afford a rising cap, and has said as much. posting people who do not write checks and have a piece in name, is meaningless. Its the guy who runs it and pays the bills, who is in charge.

For any owner to make money, they need a league of teams. The sun not coming up in the east is more likely than the league not coming up in the fall. The salary cap in itself will do nothing to alter this sun.

The real worry is is what differences will be seen between small- and large-market teams.
- No HOFers in the small markets
- The elite players gravitate to the large market teams in free agency and at the trade deadline
- Officiating that is brutal to St Louis and Buffalo

The End Result
- The small market teams will have ZERO HOFers, but will get the "mini-prizes" like the Winter Classic.
- The small market GM will run the 4Nations and Olympics.
- The McKennas will go to the teams with deep pockets.

Sound familiar?

I'd love to know how markets like Vegas, Utah and Nashville are able to max monetize free OTA all of their non-major cable games.

You would think as strong the TV market is in St. Louis (and Missouri) this would be a win-win all around.

Yes, that's why I could see this year it will be something along those lines.

With so many switching to streaming, the local stations need a reason to have people actually turn to their stations again.

Don’t fellows really think a small town market like St. Louis can offer such players these 12-18 million dollar contracts or will the Blues need to pay one and allow the other 2 to leave. Just seems like with payroll way up the coffers will run dry.

Unless the NHL is sharing the revenue a lot higher, i was projecting that other teams will have .$18 million dollar stars and that the Blues will need to sell off their best and make the winning teams even better. We and other low market teams would feed the better teams in big cities
Blues and other teams have been selling adds on jerseys and helmets so revenue has increased.

per google Ai

The St. Louis Blues do not publicly disclose the specific financial values of their ad agreements. However, league-wide data and financial reports indicate the Blues have likely generated an estimated $11 million to $18 million in total from these advertisements since the inception of helmet and jersey ads

Helmet Signage: First allowed during the 2020-21 season. Industry reports estimate NHL helmet sticker agreements average around $2.1 million per team annually, with most teams commanding close to $1 million. Over the last six seasons, this has likely brought in between $6 million and $12 million for the franchise.

Jersey Patches: Introduced in the 2022-23 season. The Blues signed a 5-year partnership with St. Louis-based wealth management firm Stifel to feature their logo on both home and away sweaters. NHL jersey patch deals command an average of $3.87 million to $4.4 million per season. Over the past four seasons, this has likely generated roughly $15 million to $17 million in total revenue for the team

Lost me at "google Ai"

Regardless, citing "averages" is murky at best; and, how much of that revenue does the league get?

I remember someone telling me all the trashy ads that partially inflate the salary cap was a good thing. Whoops. Just because the salary cap keeps going up, doesn't mean every team will spend to it.
