Correct.
The definition of "big" to be determined. If management builds a team smartly and Snuggerud sees that, then I think whatever "big" is will be fair for both him and the Blues.
On a related note, what impressed me about him during the game here against the Capitals late this past season, Tom Wilson was abusing him with cheap shots...after the second or third time, Snuggerud skated after him and gave him a severe crosscheck. Yeah he got penalty, but it was worth it, he didn't just take it. It showed guts and fire and personal responsibility and willingness to finish. He may not be the fastest skater, but he's not slow and his hockey sense and his scoring instincts are obvious.

Logan Mailloux is signed to a one-year, $850,000 contract extension with the St. Louis Blues that carries an $850,000 average annual value (AAV) and expires at the end of the 2026-27 season. He will be a restricted free agent (RFA) in 2027.

me thinks this will be the very next contract probably a bridge deal around 2-3 years 3 mil
Mailloux will get 5-6 on a bridge. Maybe more. Top 4 guys aren't taking less.
He's played 20ish good games in the NHL. I saw Kessel and Tucker play good for stretches of games as well and they're not top 4 D. We definitely should be taking a wait and see approach with Mailloux. Maybe the lightbulb went off and it's all up from here which will be a huge win for us. Maybe it's more up and down before he settles down to being a top 4. Then again maybe we just saw the best 20 game stretch he'll every play in the NHL and it's more like the beginning of the season.
I don't disagree with the patient approach. I was just commenting that we're not getting him to sign for 3M as it stands today.

I definitely remember thinking Kessel would be a top 4 by now. That's some awful tasting crow!
Kessel (and obviously Tucker too) does not have anywhere near the mobility and puck-handling skills that Mailloux has. He was what he is.

We’re not getting Snuggy for anything less than 10. We should in no way give JN 7. He’s a good player, heart and soul guy, but that contract is a big overpay.
We all hope Snuggy has the production to earn that, but that’s no given yet. Everyone here moaned when the Blues locked up Thomas and Kyrou after a short time now you want to turn around and hand it to Snuggy?
Cannot live in the past. Thomas has lived up to it and it is looking smart. Kyrou...well, where is he? Snuggerud is not Kyrou.
Kyrou was miles better than everyone here gave him credit for. He didn’t bang the corners but so what? Not his game. Yes, Thomas has lived up to it which made people wrong. Let’s just hope we’re not wrong about Snuggy

Not sure what your point is, though? I mean, if Kyrou was better than the moaners thought, that only feeds the logic to lock Snuggerud up for 10M now (just as we locked up Kyrou previously).

I mean, you seem to be saying we should listen to the moaners (and not risk prematurely signing Snuggy), even though they were wrong about Kyrou...?

I’m just saying I’m not sure the progression of how many years for young players, but I know he’s still on his entry deal then he’s an RFA, no sense jumping the gun, we have time to see what he really will be at minimal risk to the team

Snuggy cannot sign an offersheet next offseason and is several years away from ufa. This will factor into his contract and it will not be as much as is being predicted in this thread by many posters. 8x8 or 8.5x8 is likely where we come in at if we go longterm. If we wait til next offseason the pricetag will likely go up. Neighbors you are looking at 5 to 6 a year right now.

Agreed. But if we had to guess today, which is the implied premise of the thread, I would expect - based on 55 pts in his first 77 games - Snuggerud to play at about a 60 to 70 pt pace over 80 games, decent 2 way play, and no glaring weaknesses. Going rate for that seems to be roughly 7M. If he plays closer to 30g ir PPG, at his age that should push the hit closer to 9M today. By next year, it'll be closer to 10M.

Thats assume an offer sheet risk (I'm not sure if his playoff games in 2025 count or not).

They do. He signed his contract at 20 and 10 or more games played burns a year. Snuggy played 14. 7 in season, and 7 post season.

"Player aged 20 or older (or who turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 of the year in which he signs his
ELC) earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more Professional Games under contract in a given League Year."

Snuggerud will be offer sheet eligible. That has been a source of confusion because he only had 7 regular season games in his first season. But with playoffs he got to 14, which makes it count the same as any season.

I don’t think that means he’s a huge risk or anything. The Blues have consistently locked up their young players and centers are a more likely target than wingers anyway.

While I dont think there's a huge risk, his elibility for offersheets will drive up his price, I would guess by 1M or so annually.

In his current mailbag, JR was speculating 7x10M fwiw.

While I love Jake a.k.a. Bobby Bassen 2.0 Neighbors as much as the next guy, I just can’t wrap my brain around him getting six mil a year on a longterm deal for what he provides

I mean we just traded Kyrou and his contract for MM, the 16th OA, an another first round prospect.

I don't think that indicates it was a bad contract at all.

If Jake has a decent season he will have a good argument for some coin. If he can get 20+ that'll be 3 out of 4 seasons of 20 or more. That's worthy of a decent contract. Snuggy can score goals but so can Jake and right now Jakes the better 2 way player. They both need to have a good season but Snuggy will get more opportunities to shine. I hope they both do well and turn into gamers.

The Blues are building around their younger wingers Jake is going to get paid he's a proven performer and team leader already. Snuggy may very well be a star player when the dust settles. The Blues were able to get Thomas, Holloway, McTavish on what is now bargain basement deals luckily.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the next wave of Dvorsky, Stenberg then Carbonneau
