yup
who would want him?

If Buch is allowed to play with McT and McM… he will exceed 20 goals and have around 30 assists.

He kills penalties on a unit that has struggled mightily for a few years now and that's a positive attribute?

Ok wait so now Buch is the entire problem with the penalty kill? That's laughable.

Maybe it's because they had nobody on the PK besides Thomas who can win a f-ing faceoff? Do you think?

Another reason for Finley to be in the lineup.

I posted a deep dive on buch by the numbers on a recent thread. Statistically speaking he is likely to see his goal totals start to decline based on age and prior averages.

I do think - and hope - he will have a bit of a bounce back year. Hopefully around his average 20 goal mark. I also think you have to consider trying to move him after this season if he does put up decent numbers.

Yes, in today’s cap 20 goal scorers are probably closer to being worth 6-8M, but I do not think he’s going to hold that standard long. Not for the length of his contract; especially as he starts ceding power play time to younger, skilled players.

With that said, hope he has a solid 20+ goal year and then try like hell to move him after the season.

Rivers said Buch was taking part in a training camp put together by Panarin. Maybe he can regain a step and get his production back above 50 points.

But aren't we aiming for a 2-3 year rebound? If it's going to take that long, what then is Buch's value to that effort? I know Thomas is irreplaceable. He's Bernie Federko or Adam Oates. Buch is not at that level. If he isn't surpassed by one of the younger players two years from now, we could be worse off for keeping him.

Does anyone play harder than Buchnevich? At times he literally chokes sure goals out of his stick, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Versatile, does the dirty work, doesn't take shifts off, skates and checks with the big boys. His hand skills seem to be declining, he famously isn't good on faceoffs, and he has an occasional brain fart. He needs linemates who play within the system, rotate and cover predictably, and keep him parked out on wing. He still has the game and production potential to be a real leader in the middle-6.

When this team starts winning consistently his contract won't seem so bad. A lot of that is [frustratingly for him] out of his control.

Backesdraft wrote: 17 Jul 2026 12:41 pm Offensively, I think we’d all agree that Buch is overpaid. But, he does bring other intangibles that make him valuable (most of which have already been addressed earlier in this thread). Luckily, as the cap continues to rise, his money is easier and easier to work around.
I think 90% of the teams in the league have at least one worse contract than Buch…..especially with the new cap money that people are throwing around.
Is he overpaid? Yes.
Is he grossly overpaid? No way.
He brings value to the team….many overpaid players bring next to nothing. The guy plays a 200’ game and scores 20 goals a season.
I’ll take that and not worry about it at all.

It’s not his job to clear the crease or make a save….

Pavel will do better if he is with the Mcbrothers. He still scored 20 goals in a down year.

That contract in relation to the one that Carlsson just signed is not bad for a 50 Pt guy. Hopefully he relaxes and gets 60-70 pls.

He was Panarin's linemate on the Rangers.

I never thought of that connection. They said there was about 20 players there.

stlblue06 wrote: 17 Jul 2026 13:33 pm Buch’s time here as a Blue has been a frustrating one as a fan. The first 2 years here he was unbelievable. It looked like the steal of the century at first.

Then once the team started to stumble he became very inconsistent/streaky while making glaring mistakes regularly. He isn’t a line driver so it feels like he could bounce back with better linemates .

He does have a very solid playmaking instincts and usually smart defensively. Trading him now would be selling low as the Blues wouldn’t get anything in return, maybe even a negative value.
His under performance seemed to coincide with moving him around most nights and also putting him at the center position which was basically taking a bullet for the team.

I agree to have patience and get him on the right line .....the upcoming year will be huge as to how his contract will play out.

Let’s see how he does without being saddled with Kyrou as his linemate.

He does seem to press a bit much when he is slumping, and at times he seems a bit clumsy.

I’ve seen mock trades online where he goes to Carolina in the Nikishin trade.

The question is, is his contract worse than the Kotkaniemi contract??
