That just seems really expensive for a guy that’s kinda milk toast with smart hockey sense.
6 is the new 4, especially this year. I would have been surprised if this got below 6.
4M only gets you to the clearance racks these days.

I was hoping for closer to 6, but happy to see it's done and under 7 per.

I was at 5x7 when he first was acquired. Seems about right where it ended up. The extra year is nice.

Blues at 99.6MM against a 104MM cap.

Will gain 6.5MM when Krug is moved to LTIR.

Could feasibly still spend 10.9MM if there was something to spend it on.

Blues are really putting themselves in a good financial position. They also have eggs and numerous baskets where anyone can really explode. I’m really excited to see what this season brings.

Would love to spend some of that cash on Alex Debrincat

At the time the Blues acquired him…the Washington message boards had him going for 6.5 - 7.5. That was before the “stupid money” started being spent by other NHL clubs. This deal is a bargain. He will make 1.5 less than Kyrou but may end up being a very similar player value wise.

Think about this….next season the Blues will have 20+ million dollars to sign Hofer, Snugs and Neighbors. I have a hard time understanding the puckpedia numbers (it says 46M)…but they have this young core locked up for 4-5 years. Job well done IMO.

Now…stay away from Nikishin and move on.

Only has a 3 team no trade clause in the last 4 years. Can be trade to the other 28 teams. I like the Steen contracts

Yeah me too.

By the time we pay Jake we'll have 21-22 million tied up in three left wingers. 23-24 if we count Johnston.

Great deal for the former top prospect of the Caps. I see him challenging for reps at 3C and at 2W. His best season I think he had a camp battle with Strome for a C spot.

I hope he comes in with a chip on his shoulder. He has legit skill and speed (plus he goes to the tough areas). I dont think hes hit his ceiling yet.

I'm not sure $20 mil would do it.

What do we think each of these three get?

Snuggreud - $10 mil minimum
Neighbours - $7 mil
Hofer - $7 mil

why would you want him? Not a fan.

That would be short sided. They can do it. Blues now have 5 of the top 6 locked up. (give or take--arguably)

They actually will be hurting next year with Mailloux, Neighbours, Snuggerud and Hofer all wanting big raises.
Bergrren may need a contract also if he breaks out.

Neighbours might not be in the long range plan.

That might be the final figures but that's not a complete increase those guys get paid something today.

I laid all this out a few weeks ago. Plenty of money to sign next year's RFAs

Id put the chances as extremely slim that the Blues are interested in the trade cost and then contractual cost to acquire DeBrincat

McMichael had a pretty good play off run with the Caps in 24/25 at just over .5 ppg.

But it's not just that his overall attributes strike me as the kind of player who would do well with his overall game in play off hockey.

Hard to say. I'm sure they have a team of bean counters charting future cap growth, salaries and how to construct a roster salary wise.

So far they done a decent job of shedding long-term salaries on declining players - Buch and Fowler are the only two left - but at some point they won't be able to sign them all. It's why their amatuer scouting department is so critical. You can probably afford to pay the top two lines, two pairs and starting goalie the reasonable going rate. Then you need a blend of entry level contracts and savy short term veteran deals to round out a roster.

For sure they're going to have some hard decisions coming with players like Jake, Mailoux and Dvorsky unless the cap explodes.
