Centers are like shortstops in baseball. You are drafting a guy that is playing the most demanding position that typically requires the most skill. These guys can be moved off center if needed and become competent wingers.

Nothing really to shrug at, of course Thomas had the luxury of being on a 94 pt team, #1 in the Central. Dalibor had much weaker line mates. Id say we will know a lot more about Dalibor over the next two seasons, hes still only 21 yrs old no rational Blues fan is making any brash determinations yet.
And the Blues had ROR and Schenn down the middle during his "development years". It didn't mean the Blues lacked faith in RT's development.
MacT is more advanced as he's older. And it's always a bonus to have depth down the middle.

Re: Dvorsky?
It should also be noted that Thomas that first season got to break into the NHL as a winger because...wait for it.....we had an abundance of center depth so as not to rush his development. Dvorsky got thrown into the big pond out of need because we did not have center depth.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 10:14 am Age 20:

If OP were running a baseball team, he'd say, "no moves at the deadline necessary, we actually have just the right amount of pitching."Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 10:25 am Centers are like shortstops in baseball. Looks like he's at 16...The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 10:23 am His point stands. The only player in that graphic drafted after Dvorsky that’s scored significantly more is Benson and he jumped to the nhl right away. The rest of the guys are all within 10 or so points of Dvorsky and that’s just not significant.
https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/most-p ... raft-class
With that said it looks like a good draft for the Blues - all three picks are represented in the top 25
Oliver Moore at 19 is looking like a steal...he's been playing third line minutes.

Link to all the drafted players in 2023 and you can see his peers. This draft class is awesome. Some real studs. Hopefully Dalibor becomes a beast. He has more work to do in terms of physical growth as well as skating.
Not a bad first year.
Can we see him for another year before criticizing him? (or righting him off. )
Dudes gonna be a stud imo. You cant make a judgement on a player after 1 season.

Ok==sounds good. I do feel he is gonna be one of the better guys chosen in the draft. Hopefully a great two way defensive responsible player who score 25 goals.
Im more speaking to the fake ASSOG.

The Blues like the kid hes a gym rat he works hard on his game hes dominated every level hes played at so far. There is simply nothing to worry about i will reserve judgement until hes 22-23 yrs old assuming he has more quality on his wings then we will see. There is no reason to rush him now. At some point soon behind Thomas the Blues will have McTavish, Dvorsky and Lawrence lol, ridiculous depth down the middle, each center with a differing skill set. Great times ahead

Doh! I shouldn't respond at all- and haven't for a long time- but this idiot boy post deserved a slappin'.Army's Mom wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 09:58 amThis is a great point, and was something I thought about after the draft trade - how fortunate we were that the O'Reilly trade worked out AFTER they already added Bozak, giving them possibly redundant depth at C that they might not have pursued had the O'Reilly trade gone down earlier.Harry York 37 wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 08:51 amNo, but I don't think he's as stupid as you present yourself to be.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 08:46 am Meow meow meow meow

Likely, he remembers that that last time they fixated on overfilling the larder with capable centers-like this- they all got their names engraved on the Stanley Cup.
It's great to have so many options at C.
But please quit quoting the kitty, as it forces the rest of us to pay him some attention. Or at least edit liberally![]()
It seemed over the top to me at the time, but boy... having a fine and capable Center on all four lines carried us a long way, didn't it?
The absolute luxury of having young Barby and Sunny on the fourth line, centered by Alex Steen, was a huge key in that Cup victory. The hockey savvy and ornery compete-level, along with the last gasp of top-six skill level Steener brought along, was magical.
No team enjoyed lining up against them.

There is only 1 thing more COMMON and INEVITABLE than Pro Sports being a constant fight for the young men to obtain/retain a position....BluesDom wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 09:19 amHe sure does have crazy, often very emotional opinions.
Who give a (bleep) what Dvorsky thinks. He is a paid NHL player who is 20 years old. In sports the best man wins. Teams are always looking for the next best thing. Everyone is replaceable. If Dvorsky is legit he will have a nice long career. If he's redundant or is average or not needed. He will be traded. All this stuff works itself out. Its pro sports. Not unique to any team.
and that is BluesTalk NEVER LOOKS BACK AT THE BLUES DECISIONS TO DETERMINE IF THEY ARE MAKING PROGRESS.
Dvorsky was a high pick in 2023, Sports Fans, and Army is now essentially starting over at 2C.
Dvorsky is in a way different position with the Blues than he was 3 months ago. He's JAG at FORWARD now, not the heir apparent to 2C.

The Blues have made MAJOR MISTAKES at filling the 2C position most recently.
See Kevin Hayes and Dalibor Dvorsky.
Take that into consideration when judging whether McTavish is a solution or not.
Morals of the story:
1. Scouts/Personnel/Coaches that have made mistakes before are prone to making MORE MISTAKES in the future.
2. Teams that are DESPERATE to fill a failing key position are much more likely to make MORE MISTAKES in the future.

I don't recall seeing another post on BluesTalk acknowledging the the BLUES MADE A MISTAKE AT 2C IN THE RECENT PAST!!!!
I was first to call it out. Now, you are second. There are now 2 people talking about important facts that have affected the BLues.

Re: Dvorsky?
Your post is saying that anyone the blues draft or trade for will be bad because the blues chose to acquire or draft that player and they make bad decisions. So I ask again, why follow this team? If this is what you think you’re just driving yourself insane. And we all hate you so it’s not like you’ve found some community here or anything.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 11:40 amWhat I'm telling you is this..Harry York 37 wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 11:35 amAre you telling us the Blues got better?a smell of green grass wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 11:25 amMeow meow meow meowBluesDom wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026 09:19 amHe sure does have crazy, often very emotional opinions.
