Just along the lines of great run-ins. Buddies & I ran into Anderson, McClelland, and Messier on the Landing after Gretzky's 5-goal game in '84. They were extraordinarily nice & chatted to us for 5-10 minutes. Messier took off his ring and let us pass it around and take a look at it. Nothing but good things to say about them.

Was at that game with my dad. I think he only scored 4 that night…I remember one of the goals in the second period, they didn’t call it on the ice and Gretzky was banging on the glass at the goal judge like a mad man but they eventually stopped play and credited him with the goal. Also remember Schofield and Semenko having a tilt that night. Was a great night though because my dad wasn’t the biggest hockey fan , he was becoming a fan because of my interest so I wanted to take him to see the greatest player in the world and the Great one delivered that night. Good times for sure.

Yup, we were, I dunno, ten rows up behind the goal when that happened.

JD was absolutely the right guy at the right time for the Blues. I appreciate what he did for at-the-time floundering organ-eye-zation.

And, one of the best TV analysts.

JD was great, was always a big fan. He managed the social media era of the Blues very well. He sold the fan base on the kids for sure. “Come grow with us” was very much needed. Always the professional, always loved JD, even if he had to spin things as being better than what they actually were 20 years ago.
I always remember the WJC game, several months after drafting EJ and he made the biggest boneheaded play that would cause anybody watching to actually wonder if he had any hockey sense whatsoever. Within an hour of that game being over, JD released a statement to calm the masses, saying that he reached out to EJ regarding what happened in that game.

The Boy Band Era - oh man, that was the one point in my life I actually had the free time and disposable income to make use of season tickets. Great memories.

I'll never forget the "chest hair" photo of JD, though, that's made the rounds here in the past...

Again, my memory is creaky. Was it during the Boy Band Era that Blues gave out — or made somewhat cheaply — food at games? Same era as free tacos for scoring five (I think) goals?

I dunno if this is what you're thinking about - but they did have a "free food game" (I think a beta test for all you can eat inclusive tickets) that coincided with a blizzard. I think maybe 1000 fans bared the icy roads and showed up. It was against the Kings and Fukufuji was the goalie. I only remember it for the chants. And the thrown hot dogs. So many thrown hot dogs that day.

I can still see him running across the ice and throwing his glasses at Ron Fournier the referee. I was so mad after the game that I sent a letter to John Ziegler and I got a really nice reply from Scotty Morrison, who was the head of officiating, explaining his interpretation of the call and even how Fournier could have done better.
As for the fight, didn’t it start after Ramage stepped into Gretzky the blue line and Schofield stepped in when Semenko got in Ramage’s face? Schofield is a vastly underrated fighter from that era
And like any else who ran into JD a few different times, I agree that he could not be a nicer guy. Now Bobby Clark was one of the players I hated the most and he could not have been nicer or more respectful the couple of times I encountered him

Sure thing. I really wish I was born to see the Blues from day one, but I didn't come until 1981 and I missed most of all the greatest eras of hockey. Luckily for me, I saw all of the 90's.

I played in the 14 Fund golf tournament many, many years ago on my company’s dime. Got paired with JD and he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. 2112, I agree. He was perfect for the Blues at the time.
