Parayko and the Sabres again?

Post by OlderndWiser »

Got a message on my phone that the Sabres have resurrected the Parayko trade and are sending Myrka or whatever his name is and a 2027 first for Parayko. I thought this was a dead issue. Has anybody else heard this rumor? From what I've heard this guy is timid and doesn't use his size to defend well, plus he has no offense to speak of. Why would we do this?

He already said no. I'm sure he will say it again.

Certainly we would have asked Colton's permission this time, correct? Hoping this was just some poster who wanted attention although he said there were rampant rumors. I guess if this trade we went through, we would turn around and make a deal for the Cane's LHD. Just seems odd.

It could be more plausible this time. He felt like he was ambushed at the trade deadline. He's had time to think and maybe he wants another shot at the Cup. The first from Buffalo will probably be 20-32, so it would okay to have. I have cooled on Mrtka unless we could make a three-way trade with Carolina for Nishkin. In essence, the net would be Parayko for Nishkin, which would benefit us. Also, we would be cutting payroll. I think Parayko is still a good player and is valuable as a mentor for the young defense. I would like to see him get 1000 games in the Blues note.

If the net is Parayko for Nishkin that will likely not be a payroll decrease plus we would have to many NHL LD and not enough RD

This. Makes no sense whatsoever. And even more cap taken own if we have to add kotkaniemi's nearly 5 mill worthless contract.

I find this hard to believe on a few fronts even though the Sabres have the assets to make just about any trade they want as long as the player(s) they want will waive.

Buffalo has NHL players they can trade including UPL, Quinn, and Ostlund.
Helenius is untouchable. Buffalo has to decide if he's a center or RW.
They also have the aforementioned Mrtka and their 1st rounders.
For those that are down on Mrtka keep in mind he is only 19 and is 6'6.
Remember last year at this time regarding Jiricek? Many were down on him.

From the Sabres perspective:
Jarmo is still pushing for Hellebuyck and/or Larkin.
2RHD is 3rd on his list, but Parayko would be a big upgrade over Timmins.

I believe Helly ends up in Buffalo once Jarmo gives in to Chevy's demands & UPL waives.
I suspect you'll see UPL, Mrtka, and 1 more piece going to Winnipeg.

Larkin is more of a longshot because Yzerman would have to take Norris +
I believe Larkin would eventually waive to go to Buffalo.
If Quinn is involved in any trade, look for Buffalo to sign P. Kane.

From the Blues perspective:
They're pushing for a wildcard spot in 26-27 so unless Mrtka is flipped as suggested, it's unlikely they trade Parayko for futures unless they love Mrtka and there is some friction with CP55.

If the Blues don't immediately flip Mrtka I would think they would also ask for Timmins (1 year left on contract) in the deal so they have another NHL RHD to temporarily take Parayko's spot until Jiricek and Mrtka are ready.

Even though Nikishin played some on the right side it makes no sense for the Blues to flip Mrtka + for Nikishin from an organizational depth chart perspective unless they love Nikishin.

I would love to see this d corps in 2 years:
Broberg - Jiricek
Lindstein - Mrtka
Fischer - Mailloux

Not gonna happen but fun fodder to debate for a mid July day.

This feels very made up. Which hey, I've posted my share of non-realistic trade proposals.

Does this one at least have a link?

I agree, hard to believe, yet I believe it  Also, yeah, is this even real? I haven't found anything about it. AI says it's fake.

If the Blues inquired about Nikishin (seem to be a main team rumored), then I would assume the Blues like him a lot. Even if we don't take Mrtka back, swapping Parayko for Nikishin could be the play.

As far as RHD/LHD - taking Timmins back would help, but we already have Carlo (which I forgot when first analyzing the situation). If we move Parayko, Carlo can certainly fill some of the void. He's more than just a 5/6 Dman. If we're not counting on Parayko for offense, then I wouldn't say it's a huge downgrade. I also have no issue with Lindstein playing the right side. He's a very intelligent and adaptable player who I've seen do just fine there before in Sweden and the WJC. There's also a chance to move Fowler to make it work (who you left out of your 2 year d corps). I also trust Fowler on his off side.

Hey guys, the forum fools have already informed us that Parayko isn't available; we aren't trading him.

The blues flat out stated he is off the market, he isn't going anywhere. We don't have anyone to take his spot, there is no one UFA to take his spot, and we aren't going to put a rookie in his spot and give them 25 minutes a night.

this is more than likely a Buffalo fan hoping

Exactly. Trading Parayko makes no sense right now. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it just doesn't make sense. Nikishin would be good an upgrade on our left side, but just not seeing a good deal that Carolina would want from us, that we would be willing to do.

Parayko is going nowhere. Mama Imo told the Blues no and and that’s all that matters.

Parayko is not available according to Army and Colton has said he won't waive.
So, I guess I'm one of the forum fools.

No offense. But message from whom? Link to anything? Old article?
