The road to 2030 begins in September

Post by BrummerStealsHome »

With the CONCACAF Nations League.

USA is sure to be on of four countries with direct qualification into the quarterfinals. There will be two groups of six. None of that has been announce yet, but here are the 16 teams in the league:

Canada
Costa Rica
Curacao
Dominican Republic
El Salvador
Guatemala
Haiti
Honduras
Jamaica
Martinique
Mexico
Nicarague
Panama
Suriname
Trinidad & Tobago
USA

I expect USA, Mexico, and Canada to be direct qualifiers. Who is the fourth? Panama?

Anyway, the road to Portugal and Spain starts in September.

The USA is built to beat the teams in this league but not much else beyond that.

Even if you assembled the "greatest" players in USMNT history onto one team (Donovan, Dempsey, McBride, Howard, Ramos, Beasley, Bradley, etc.), could they even reach the semi-finals of a World Cup? They've only made the quarterfinals once, back in 2002

There's no reason to believe it couldn't happen.

Go look at some of the teams who have made a WC semi final.

Still can’t think about this right now.

Maybe in September I will be ready.

Heck, Costa Rica ('14) and Russia (''18) were each a PK away from making a semi final.

Hard to believe they have an international break so soon after a world cup.
