I don't think anyone here knows the extent of his knee injury. If he is out for an extended period, he gets sent down on paper but stays with his family here while he rehabs with the Blues people. If he gets healthy enough he plays in the AHL and helps out Ott. Transition......

This is what I'm thinking as well. They've managed to get him signed for all the intangibles he brings, with no rush to come back, without blocking anyone, and then when he does return (which could be sooner than we think), he adds to the competition in Springfield until we might need him for the playoffs with the Blues.

Keep in mind, it was Barbs-Sunny-Steen that did some of the hardest work to win the Cup, starting every game and playing in key situations. Some may need a refresher, but Sunny is one of the smartest players and actually has a great shot and is a good passer. I understand this is the Show-Me state, and we've now come 7 years since that video, but this is part of team building. It seems Steen and Army have recognized "being hard to play against" as the standout factor from the Cup team. I mean...Schwartz, ROR, Perron, 4th line, Bozak, etc.. Now, Steen is a guy who has popped in 30g by January, so let's not think he doesn't understand skill either. Sunny has an agreed-to role that will only benefit the team and the development of young players. LTIR until playoffs

Well they started every game except the ones for Barbashev and for Sundqvist, because the League Office felt their need to hopefully be part of the outcome.

I think as the dust settles with some of the bigger fish, Larkin, Robertson etc...that some team with cap and a need for a player gets interested in either Buch or Suter. Assuming that doesn't happen my guess with the list above is that Sunny starts on LTIR rehabbing his knee, Walker is moved through waivers to the AHL and Stenberg and Carbs start in the AHL. The rest is your opening night roster.

Agree for the most part with all the posts quoted here. With regards to Stenberg, he did get 32 NHL games last season and didn’t look out of place. He only had 10 points, so definitely not a top 9 type player yet, but he killed penalties and showed to be a pretty smart player. He’s closer to being ready than being credit for, but they have definitely created competition. Carbs isn’t ready, and personally, I feel Dube and Sunny don’t make the big club either.

The only way the Blues even consider moving Buch is if they get a better/younger player back IMO. I'm sure they think Stenberg is close or even think he is ready but fans don't seem to understand your 13th guy is all but a full time NHL player. Stenberg starting in the A does not mean he is not an NHL player or that they don't think he is an NHL player at all.

Pretty sure Dvo started the season in the A last year then played 71 NHL games, I'd expect something similar for Stenberg this year and I'd expects Carbs to be about the opposite. Lots and AHL and maybe a little NHL for Carbs.

Between the whining and teeth-gnashing about a completely harmless contract, along with people breathlessly asking Tim why he thinks the Sunny signing leads to a Nikishin trade...this thread has been fairly entertaining . Good grief, drop the puck already, it's going to be a long July and August in the Asylum.

I LOVE the signing. Steen has made it clear that he values the St. Louis Blues culture, and Sunny embodies that. Plus he's one of the smartest players out there. Even if he doesn't have much left in the tank, he'll be a great mentor and culture carrier regardless of whether he's in St. Louis or Springfield. Dude just loves the St. Louis Blues, and the coaches always seem to put him on the ice in critical situations, so I'm not going to worry to much about him being on a league-minimum two-way contract. Steen did him a solid, love to see the club take care of guys like Sunny, and the cost is extremely low. Always drove me kind of nuts when Army would emotionlessly jettison heart-and-soul guys like Maroon and Perron to free up cap space for some scrub.

At least one roster spot is best "sucked up" by a player like Sunny, "healthy scratch". Hopefully he adds more value but don't dismiss that role.

Totally, I would hate to see him taking a roster spot from some tweener on the Blues or some 28 year-old career AHLer in Springfield who is just trying to hang on before he's relegated to beer league.
