I like this post...on the HF Flyers board:
"Also, if GMDB concentrated on being a better drafter, developer, evaluator and negotiator, he would not have had to resort to such a grandiose shot in the dark as giving a third-year player $18MM per year, almost $8mm more the McDavid. Everyone is giving him credit, but all I saw was a futile act by a desperate GM who was willing to part with 4 1st round picks because, let's face it, they mean nothing in the hands of a Flyers GM"
Ducks match the offer sheet. Carlsson stays.

I don't view them as comparable. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 16:26 pmYes I’m aware, but I don’t see how that’s relevant. Considering the ducks just traded McTavish for 2 firsts and matched an 18 million dollar offer sheet for Carlsson I’d say they don’t view the 2 players as very comparable. And they’re probably correct. I don’t think McTavish sucks or anything but he’s not really viewed in the same tier around the league.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 16:09 pmHe scratched him 2 of 12 games and in the 10 games he played, he scored 6 points. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 16:08 pmNo chance. Back on topic. Timing is everything. Suppose the Ducks had yet to trade McTavish to the Blues. I'll bet they let Carlsson go, put the 4 picks in their pocket, and go big game hunting with the extra $11 mil in cap space and 4 extra picks. And still have McTavish at C.
I viewed your comment as inaccurate. It implied McT was sat the entire postseason. Other people use the same verbiage to imply a more scathing criticism of reality.
All I was doing was pointing out the facts for how much he was actually sat. That's all. Just clarifying.

They've had successful first round picks though. Martone very recent. Others.dhsux wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 16:38 pm I like this post...on the HF Flyers board:

Part of the quote is true. It was a desperate move. But not part implying that Philly first rounders are worthless.

I literally said he was healthy scratched in the playoffs and he was. I didn’t say or imply he was scratched for the entirety of the playoffs. It’s very strange for you to read words that aren’t there and claim what I said isn’t accurate.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 17:50 pmI don't view them as comparable. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 16:26 pmYes I’m aware, but I don’t see how that’s relevant. That's true but incomplete. Sure read to like your implying he scratched him the whole postseason.
Weird to me that you're so defensive when all I did was add to what you wrote a clarifying statement.

Man, you misconstrued what I wrote and then told me that I was inaccurate. That’s a combative way for you to approach this. It’d be incredibly easy for you to just sorry I misread that or whatever instead of pushing the onus back on me.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 18:25 pm"Q Healthy Scratched McTavish in the playoffs this year...."The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 18:04 pmI literally said he was healthy scratched in the playoffs and he was. I'm old enough that I remember Brian Sutter scratch Brett Hull several times and he turned out OK.
And my original post about if the Ducks still had McTavish, maybe letting Carlsson walk, would you rather have Carlsson or McTavish passing to someone like Robertson. Or Matthews, etc.
