The [Blues] defense, however, still lacks a true young long-term anchor who can grow alongside that forward group.
Broberg!?!?!?

Mailloux, possibly, as well.

DawgDad wrote: 10 Jul 2026 09:48 am I don't believe Jake Neighbours is underrated, I think his ceiling is clearer (more established) than some other young players and prospects. He's a physical energy garbage goal guy (for the most part) who can skate. He is not a notable playmaker and he's a winger not a center (separates him from a Barbashev who adds that versatility).
Personally i think Jakes ceiling is higher than Barbies, Barbie avgs 18 goals per 82 NHL games Jake has a smaller sample size but Jake avgs 21 goals per 82 NHL games, he hits more, can PK, PP as well. Barbie is a C of course but Barbie left he doesnt really matter much to me. Losing Jake would be a big mistake esp with the loss of Kyrou.
We may have another gem in Stenberg but he needs to show something more this year, needs to be in the 15 goal ish range for his age. We will see until then the Blues are still a little thin at wing for me.
Neighbours does not hit more than Barbashev. Edit: you're right but it's very close. I didn't think this was true but Neighbours does slightly out hit Barby.

Barbashev is not a C.
Id bet that Neighbours is the 2LW behind Holloway and plays with McTavish, id book Neighbours for 25 goals whether they are 'garbage' or not they count

So much Flexibility. Suter could play 3C and DVO play 2nd line wing with McM and McT. Neighbors is a heart and soul guy but he’s a 3rd line wing on this team in my mind. Neighbors will get some 2nd line time as I’m not convinced McM is truly a 2nd line winger either. I’d be for packaging McM in a trade for Nikishin too. I still think we are lacking true 2nd line wingers. But we have enviable center depth.

20-25 goals is fine for a 2nd line winger with McTavish but whos on the other wing? Buch had to really rally late last year to hit 20 goals this more of a concern for me than Neighbours who has shown he can score 25 ish. Im sure as usually there are constant line changes, McMichael is likely to play on this line, Stenberg, Berggren, Buch who knows but when they dealt Kyrou whether we liked him or not the Blues lost some skill that has to be replaced by someone

The athletic has an article about what Nikishin could potentially bring to a team that trades for him.

Yeah, that is an awful take. Broberg looks like our Heiskenen.

I would assume any deal would likely send Lindstein the other way.

rumors seem to involve an ask of taking kotkniemi (sp?) back- bad contract longterm and including either dvorsky or neighbors. I doubt the blues want to do either, so I doubt it happens. They could and probably have offered a good package but the ask isn't lining up as of now.

I think the other issue is that NYR offered a big package that CAR doesn't want to take to send Nikishin to a division rival. I really don't know what CAR wants or needs, and because I don't know that much about Nikishin, I also wonder which skills/attributes he brings that the Blues think we need and don't have. He could have star power. #1LD type? No idea, but if Army/Steen like him enough to be a serious bidder, I imagine he's pretty good. To your point though, is he Lindstein/Neighbours good? McMichael? It seems like we're ready to be pulling the trigger on hockey trades like these that would involve prospects/picks going out.

I don't know why the Blues would kick the tires on anyone at this point if it involved the names Dvo/Broberg/Carbs/Hofer/Snuggs. I'm not saying they are untouchable, but I don't see a world where you aren't losing out on that trade with however else you have to package for it to make sense. Dvo in another draft class could have been a top 5 pick. Carbs and Snuggs are who you are counting on to be bonified goal scorers. And Hofer appears to be the guy.

I listed all them knowing that it's really only Dvo the board keeps flirting. Why are we giving up on this guy who was asked to do more than we thought last year a year early. But also showed a good outing at international competition. To me, Dvo looked like a guy that was being asked to grow up a bit early and then got tired out by the non stop schedule. The guys who didn't do the international stuff showed up big at the end. Those guys were fresh and had a chance to fix their game. Dvo would have benefited from a break, but again, we got to see him on the big stage play really well.

Yeah, well that is like, your opinion, man....but really it isn't the blues opinion so that is just the reality
