Tynan Lawrence
Hahaha...when the Flyer Offer Sheet was made it was like oh man what big balls Briere has....what a GM!....Finally something happening!
Now...with reality setting in.....it went from big balls to now what do we do to ......pathetic balls.
Anyway, reading up on this on HF...I'm just so glad the Blues drafted Tynan Lawrence.
Can he be a faster developing Robert Thomas center??
Just so great to have him simmering in the system.

Re: Tynan Lawrence
I think he can turn into a better skating Robert Thomas. I think since he didn't immediately put up points like Celebrini in college teams over thought his scouting. I also think that the class of defensemen being so strong it let him slip through the cracks. Had he stayed in the USHL he would have been drafted higher than 11. I've heard some argue that college exposed him but he was 17 jumping on a sinking college team midseason. I think the expectations were unrealisticskilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 19:03 pmI personally think Lawrence is underrated.dhsux wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 18:44 pm Hahaha...when the Flyer Offer Sheet was made it was like oh man what big balls Briere has....what a GM!....Finally something happening!

This could be a really underrated pick and I hope it is. Trying to transition 1/2 through the season and being one of the youngest players in the draft alone could be why the points weren't there. BU also struggled to score and I'm sure he was focusing on the D side of his game staring out. Next year will he will have a full season and be much more prepared.

In addition to your points above, wasn’t he injured as well? Ankle? Or am I thinking of a different prospect from the draft?Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 20:01 pm This could be a really underrated pick and I hope it is. Yes, he got injured in training camp and missed the beginning of the season.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 22:33 pmIn addition to your points above, wasn’t he injured as well? Ankle? Reasons to be excited:
He was very good as a 16 yr old for Muskegon in 2024-25. Was probably their best player as they went on to win the Clark Cup. Opposing players simply couldn’t handle his speed and pace most of the time.
He missed the first part of the season and then put up 17 pts in 13 games. That’s high production for the USHL (a league that’s pretty defensively oriented and known to be a little stingy on secondary assists). He struggled at first in college but it can be argued that it makes sense for him to struggle a bit moving to college hockey mid-season.
He’s very fast, shifty, skilled, works his butt off and is good defensively for a teenager. He’s also very young - was barely eligible for this year’s draft. There’s a lot to like with him and reason to think he’s likely to really take a big step at BU this season.
Reasons to maybe tamper the expectations a bit:
He largely dominated the USHL but it was because of his speed. He’s also very didn’t often outthink opponents. He outskated and outworked them.
He then struggled quite a bit in the transition to college hockey. To me, it was largely because he had issues adjusting to bigger and faster players. The speed advantage was less overall there. He seemed to not see many passing lanes and skated himself into nothing.
He was then solid at the U18s but not amazing. Largely disappeared against the tougher opponents and again, his hockey sense looked lacking. The speed and skills were obvious but the playmaking was lacking.
Overall thoughts:
He’s a good C prospect. He has a lot going for him. But I do question his hockey sense some. I left many of his viewings questioning his hockey sense. That said, he started the year off injured, made a very tough transition mid-season and is very young. The question I have is, are those explanations or excuses? He was one of the harder prospects for me to judge this season as he has just about every other skill you’d want in a player. Going into the season, I had him pretty much in line with McKenna after what I saw from him the season before in the USHL playoffs. But I started to question his game more and more as the season went along.
That said, if the hockey sense issues turn out to be overblown and he can really develop his playmaking game, then he has a real chance to pop. But I do caution people that the hockey sense critiques aren’t just made up. He showed some real concerns in that area. It’s possible they can be explained away by him having lots of transitions but it’d also plenty possible the critique is legit.

I am very happy they got Lawrence. He had a little bit of injury and bad luck but was starting to look like the guy that was projected to be top 3. I have a very good feeling he will be the redraft diamond.skilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 19:03 pmI personally think Lawrence is underrated.dhsux wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 18:44 pm Hahaha...when the Flyer Offer Sheet was made it was like oh man what big balls Briere has....what a GM!....Finally something happening!

Re: Tynan Lawrence
Great points to consider. I’ve not watched him play a full game. Reading your post about speed not being the advantage it was in the USHL could show up as his hockey sense needing to improve if he’s not used to needing to out think opponents. Hockey sense is usually one of the main skill sets the Blues like along with character so hopefully they see he can improve his decision making. If I had to guess it’s probably a mixture of both things you said. Some of his weaknesses could be from the hockey sense needing to improve and some could be from age and inexperience. Maybe the Blues look at it as he has every other skill and if he can improve his hockey sense even a bit they have a future 2C. They can let him stay at BU two more years easily to let him develop.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 22:52 pmYes, he got injured in training camp and missed the beginning of the season.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 22:33 pmIn addition to your points above, wasn’t he injured as well? Being as young as he is, I have to think he can overcome this flaw in his game.

At that point in the draft, with the players you knew were there, who would you have drafted? The dman or Command or someone else?STL fan in MN wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 22:52 pm

Re: Tynan Lawrence
His vision is underrated along with his ability to find players.
Kid is young and was injured. I think we got a good one here.

Sounds like we hit a homerun here. According to this article, he was a potential no. 1 pick before the injury. And I like the comparisons and skill set.

I think August 2nd is when the behind the scenes draft show will be aired so we can hear how the Blues scouts describe his game. The positives anyway. Next year we should also see how well he adjusts or doesn't adjust to BU. Maholtra will also be there so it will be interesting to see how he develops and how they are used.
