Seriously if a 67pt center is worth $18M per year or a LW who averaged 79pts/yr over the last 4 years is worth $17M, what is a perennial 130pt center and who is the top player in the world worth?
He can only sign for $21M and that seems like a bargain.

The question is does he want to win or does he want to find out? He seems like he wants to win.

Given that, where would you predict he goes? I hate to say it, but in my mind he gives Vegas a discount. The idea of Eichel, Marner, McDavid sounds amazing to watch and annoying to be any other team.clemonsonroots wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 23:04 pm The question is does he want to win or does he want to find out? Re: What is McDavid’s Value?
I recall a statement about not wanting to screw over Edmonton if he leaves in Free Agency, aka sign-and-trade. So it’s going to cost assets + salary.
Whenever I think of sports unions, I think of the pressure for their best players to hit the highest rung possible when they hit Free Agency. LaRussa mentioned it when Pujols went to Anaheim. So, I think that is in play, here. If Carlsson is set to make $18M, then McDavid is definitely making more than that.
Hell, Blowen Byim signed the richest contract by a defenseman and is currently set up to be the highest paid Defenseman for the 2027/28 season. So, the question is always to raise the roof. It may even become a situation where a guy like Austin Matthews signs before McDavid just so Austin can set the new highest to be broken before McDavid signs.
As a collective, we all have probably stated how crazy this offseason has been. Well, wait for UFA’s Kucherov, Makar & Quinn w/RFA’s Celebrini & Smith next year or UFA’s Austin & McDavid w/RFA Sennecke in 2028

I know he wants to play with McKinnon. Not sure how they can make that work, but that would be my guess.dr0zombie wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 23:13 pmGiven that, where would you predict he goes? Actual value, with no salary cap to drive down his compensation? At least $25m per season, but I think even that’s likely low.

his value is far more than he will ever be paid to play hockey. He will make bank for the rest of his life if he handles it right.

Re: What is McDavid’s Value?
It's all so interesting from a sport & major sports league that has and will continue to have difficulty increasing its percentage of total revenue via TV contracts relative to other major sports while also pushing for more franchises and raising the salary cap. The reality of why it does not grow its TV viewership has been discussed adnauseam. The prospect of lessening affordability to attend games could become an increasing issue. The revenue sharing component could cause an ownership divide? The fact that there are teams in the league for 50+ years that have never won a Championship or have not won one for almost 60 years gives pause.
I find it interesting that Enterprise Center is reconfiguring some areas again to add smaller 8-person suites. Individual seats are becoming fewer. The die-hard, hard-working fans are being squeezed out.
It feels like something has to eventually give. Exactly what and how that is remains to be seen.
