Ducks signed Pavel Mintyukov for $7.2m AAV

Post by zoiks »

“The Anaheim Ducks signed defenseman Pavel Mintyukov to a five-year contract worth $36 million for an average annual value of $7.2 million, the team announced Sunday.”

Nikishin’s $8m per year contract demand doesn’t look so bad.

The timing is absolutely hilarious. Being reported the ducks rushed it because he was about to be offer sheeted. Verbeek doing damage control here.

I'd bet that happens all the time, I think offer sheets have always had way more effect than people realize. Like way more.

Makes Brobergs contract look pretty good. This guy is nowhere near the defender Broberg is.

The threshold is like 7.05MM where the comp changes from a 1st and a 3rd and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

With the Ducks signing Minty for 5x7.2 it sure makes it seem to me that someone had given him a 5x7.05 offer sheet and Verbeek just exceeded it to avoid another embarrassment.

If that's true it very easily could have been the Blues.

I'd say you can bet on it, probably a bunch of teams offering that.

Probably has always been the case with RFA/offer sheets.

Just because they rarely get signed doesn't mean they are not very commonly used exactly the same way without the paperwork.

Threshold is $7,163,498 lol
