He just may not be suited for C at the NHL level. Moving him to wing may unlock his scoring potential.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 11:20 am If Wright gets top 6 minutes and PP time, he will put up 60pts. I’m not saying he doesn’t have any warts, most players do.

Re: Shane Wright
I’d love to put him on a line with Dvo but then defense definitely becomes an issue. I guess you could put Buch on the line to help out there. IMO Wright is a winger and he would excel there. He would be a good add IMO but cost has to not be to high. Maybe like a mid round draft pick and someone like Ralph? Could add in Toro and I guess I could be convinced to add Stenberg, idk.

Re: Shane Wright
I'd make the move pretty quickly for him as long as he wasn't looking for a huge payday with his production to this point. The problem is i suspect the Kraken are still looking to try to get better now, and the only roster player i'd care to move directly for him that i think wouldn't be negative value for them is Toropchenko (and he's worth peanuts in comparison), they'd basically have to take him so we could make the dollars work thereafter (suter doesn't work because he is on a 1 year deal).
I'd be willing to take the chance on him because i think he's going to outclass a lot of the depth signings we've made for the 2nd/3rd line RW spot, i think he has the two way game we'd want. He doesn't play physical, but he plays very responsible on the 2 way game, and had the 3rd most blocked shots amongst forwards for the Kraken (and was one of their better +/- players).
I'd be willing to move a future asset + Toropchenko's contract to make the deal happen if i were the GM, I think we have enough depth in the organization that a decent prospect (not a top prospect) and/or a higher end pick being gone in a future draft (not next season) would be something we could make work and not feel the effects of at this point.

Re: Shane Wright
I don't know the future of Wright. If you look he slipped from presumed first overall, slipped a bit before the NHL, slipped a bit once he got there. I feel we are past "needs opportunity" and moved to trending data with Wright.
I am pretty happy the Blues got McTavish. I was expecting his cost to be higher, and more than the Blues would pay. What I was expecting was Wright for what was given for McTavish. From my view that would have been the too high risk trade. If the cost is low enough. He doesn't seem worth not just giving DD another year at 3C and he doesn't beat McT at 2C.

Move McMichael for Nikishin (and Kotkaniemi?), and Suter+(Kotkaniemi?) for Wright
Holloway-Thomas-Snuggerud
Neighbours-McTavish-Wright
Berggren-Dvorsky-Buch
Fowler-Parayko
Broberg-Mailloux
Nikishin-Carlo
Idk, fits the profile but might rather just keep McMichael. Don't know enough about any of these players.

Re: Shane Wright
Seattle probably wants a roster piece now for Wright and the Blues don't have one to give up.
The Blues' best trade chips for a young player like Wright at this point are Stenberg, Neighbours, and next year's 1st. Not saying all three. Just saying these are the best available trade chips.
I can't see them trading Neighbours with their stated goal of being harder to play against. I could see them trading Stenberg potentially.
They're going to have to do something to get a right shot player in here.

Re: Shane Wright
I think it really shows how bad an organization Seattle built. Had they decided this a week ago, he'd be traded already. I really wanted him before we got McT. They aren't going to get a lot for him now, FA dollars have already filled the cap space of many teams. They aren't getting a lot for him now, unless it's futures and a cap dump coming back. IMHO as usual.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 11:20 am If Wright gets top 6 minutes and PP time, he will put up 60pts. I was thinking if we are committed to JN (I think we should) and we are going to sign MM long term(not sure on that) then we don't really have a spot for Stenberg or Suter IMO. I wonder if they would be interested in MM?UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 11:55 am Seattle probably wants a roster piece now for Wright and the Blues don't have one to give up.

Kotkaniemi is pretty much a negative asset at this point. CAR cant find a taker for him without stapling him to Nikishin - there's no way we could turn around and flip him and Suter for Wright. If Kotkaniemi could be moved for Wright, CAR would probably just do that in thr first place.zamadoo wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 11:46 am Move McMichael for Nikishin (and Kotkaniemi?), and Suter+(Kotkaniemi?) for Wright

I mean, with how in demand natural centers are, there must be something very wrong with him for CAR to need to force him onto a Nikishin suitor judt to be rid of him...

Maybe, but its been reported in several places. And, he was benched for the playoffs. No way the Blues are taking him if they dont have to, and less chance they immediately flip him for something of value.skilles wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 12:30 pmCould it be that reports of that are just not true?
