Should show us all roughly where McMichael should be.

If I'm McMichael I'd argue that puts me at 7 million

Re: Bourque 6 Years
If true, it's interesting that he'd be making almost as much as Thomas in AAV.

That is going to be the norm, and really has been for a long time just not to this extreme but that is inevitable when the cap is tied to revenue and the league expands a lot.

Thommer has to be among the 10 best value contracts in the whole league.
Would anyone blame him for wanting to renegotiate (if it were allowed - thank God it isn't lol). If he were UFA I would think max term and 12M per, easily.

I think he should still be happy with his choice. He took the bird in the hand as he should have and it was like 65 million dollars so its not like he will ever have money problems. These players have to know that is going to happen.Army's Mom wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 11:45 amThommer has to be among the 10 best value contracts in the whole league.

You never know when you might have a career altering or ending injury, Thomas doesn't have to worry about the rest of his life if he manages it well, so i'd agree that he shouldn't be too unhappy. He also is set to enter his next contract at age 31, so if he hasn't started to fall off much if any at that point, at FA at that point in time he'll likely make 12-14M for 4-5 years.
Risk Rewards
I think bourque is about 750k behind what McMichael is worth. So i'm kinda expecting 6.25-6.5M/4-5y or 6.75/6y.

If I was in his position yeah no doubt, I'm taking the money and the guarantee every single time. One bad hit and all of a sudden that payday could be gone.skilles wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 12:27 pmI think he should still be happy with his choice. Though you have to imagine no one could imagine #1 center salaries potentially jumping to this amount in just 4 years after he signed his.
I'm glad he did however, this is how you become you a cup contender again, top notch players, in their primes, making below current market value.

A lot of people making a lot of money failed pretty badly to see it coming IMO.
I mean its based on revenue...not profit but revenue.

going from ELC to 18 million? no, there's no way anyone would have predicted that.

but yes it was predictable, I knew it was coming and I didn't even think about it that much. The salaries have not rose to the level of the cap increases, A huge market correction was very predictable.

I firmly believe you judge your decisions by the info you had at the time and he made the right decision. That said, it’s human nature to be, I don’t know what the best word is, disappointed? frustrated? bummed? when you are much more talented and valuable but see players who are clearly less than getting bigger contracts.skilles wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 12:27 pmI think he should still be happy with his choice. I expect him to be a pro about it but it’s one of the tough dynamics about sports.

I would think that would be not that big of a deal with the regularity of it in the NHL and its the nature of the deal in place.General wrote: ↑05 Jul 2026 17:06 pmI firmly believe you judge your decisions by the info you had at the time and he made the right decision. Thomas in his prime make about the same as Crosby made in his prime.
