Why would New Jersey be unhappy?
Jersey are the ones that signed the guy FROM Utah.

This didn’t come out of nowhere. According to Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects, the two clubs had a deal in place during the 2026 NHL Draft that Utah ultimately backed out of. That unfinished business clearly left some scar tissue.

It could’ve left scar tissue…or NJ still wanted Hayton and saw a pretty obvious way to get him so did it. Doesn’t mean there had to be malice behind it at all.
