Makes you wonder if Larkin would be o.k. with Anaheim.

So this contract would be about 17% of the cap this year 16% next year and about 15% in 28-29

So over the course of the contract it probably ends up around 15% of the cap

To my knowledge no player has signed a 17% contract until now, but yeah 15% is more of the typical starting point for superstar contracts.

Yeah anouncing the cap several years in advance is making a difference it seems

Apologies if someone else mentioned it already and I missed it, but Friedman is reporting that ANH did have an offer of the table, somewhere in the 12-13 range. If true, at least Carlsson can’t accuse ANH of lowballing him.

That’s off by $5M/per year…

Everything about this is dumb. Verbeek is dumb for playing hardball with the future of the franchise. Flyers are dumb for offering this contract as it's almost double what Carlson should get. And the Ducks would be dumb to match. And Carlson is dumb for taking it tbh. Now he has to live up to the contract which is impossible. If he goes to Philly and isn't the best player in the NHL he's going to get ripped apart. And now Martone is goi g to want a max contract in two years. DUMB

Its all part of an inevitable market correction, I knew it was coming because up until this point the contracts being signed have not reflected the jump of the cap more than likely brought on by league expansion which also leads to a more lopsided supply/demand factor. They have to pay the players 50% of the revenue and thats just not going to happen unless there is a significant salary increase.

All the long term contracts have A wild amount of players currently way way under market value and locked into that rate for many many years.

This is why I was always ok with the Buch deal, This offer sheet reflects where the cap is headed but I'm still not sure the overall market is done correcting. The cap is going up another 10% next year and another 10% the following year. Its going to get wild.

The only place I disagree is from the Briere view. He took a team with a ton of tallent on the wings and brought in a world class young center. If this works the Flyers are a beast. Yes, he overpaid. Everyone does with an offer sheet. Risk reward for Briere made this a bold and brilliant move.

His one move will have a negative impact on the group of people he is representing....ownership.

As I see it this offer is way over the past normal top in AAV and term.

It sets a bad precedent for contracts on the team though. Everyone on the Flyers is gonna see that contract as the benchmark.

They are always going to use other players as benchmarks, might as well have those benchmark players on your team.

If they have another 1c using this as a benchmark that will be a good problem to have.

You are naive of you think Briere did this without his ownership approval. The rest of the owners don't matter when building your team. You play to win, not to make everyone equal.

The price on star centers is going up and it always will. What McD did for Edmonton was rare, and the team management has so far wasted his gesture for the fans.

What is good is the Blues are cost set for five years with their top two centers.

I was not implying he did this as a lone wolf, no.

Briere did what he thought was best for the Flyers. They want to win a cup and he put a 5 year stamp on it to get it done. Offersheets are all about the price, I commend Briere for taking this type of swing, then again, the Flyers are my #2 team..always have been. The Flyers can afford the the contract as well as giving up the draft choices.
