I expected Steen to bring in a focus on the future. A focus on bringing in elite talent that will culminate in names on a Cup.

This would be in contrast to Army who has been trying to ride off into the sunset on a white horse, not a dirty tired old nag. The focus on the immediate was obvious and almost understandable given the circumstances.

And what do we see? Steen is F__ING carbon copy of Armstrong. Every move cements us to the middle of the pack. Our BEST, MOST CHEERED moves are the ones where we SUBSTRACT players off the team. And McTavish? McTavish is a younger Kevin Hayes. A guy brought in from another team's discard pile to HIDE OUR DEFICIENCIES AT 2C ASAP!!!!!! Not to win a CUP with!!! Nope? It's a CYA move to make sure that management's cash register keeps ringing.

Welcome to Army 2.0, Sports Fans. Now prepare for Hayes 2.0. Dvorsky 2.0. Bolduc 2.0. Kyrou 2.0. Palm Trees 2.0.
Army 2.0, we could only hope. Bring on another Stanley Cup. Maybe you can focus your attention on how Edmonton is doing now. They that franchise looks like it could use some attention.

And here I thought that my pupils would have known by now. Alas, the teaching must go on.....

Not all TOP5 picks are great. Some are just good (e.g. Schenn).

By and large, the ONLY TOP5 picks that become available are FAILED TOP5 picks (e.g. Schenn).

Occasionally, TOP5 picks that are great became available due to GM stupidity (e.g. Pietrangelo, Marner).

I would bet 4th of July that McTavish is a FAILED TOP5 pick, good but not great. He will do for a team like the Blues, that only cares about "staying competitive".

What I call a TOP5 pick is a player that a team would NEVER CONSIDER trading, at least not until he is over the hill.

Not all top 5 picks are top 5 picks. Top 5 picks cease to be Top 5 picks the instant they are allowed to leave the team that drafted them. Then they become failed top 5 picks. Duh.

The Blues need to draft players that SOLIDIFY key positions, not hang a little black cloud over the position for 5 years.

Do you think the Sharks headed into the 2026 draft wanting to bring in more 1Cs? Nope. That was not given one minute of consideration. They have Celebrini, and now they can focus on building out the rest of the positions with more CUP-worthy talent.

In contrast, we have the St Louis Blues. They went into the 2026 draft WANTING/NEEDING to fill the SAME KEY ROSTER positions that they have been trying to fill SINCE 2023--when the re-whatever began.

And yet, nary a soul questions why Dvorsky is so invisible? Why Dvorsky is such a question mark. We are 3 years into his tenure, and all that we have to show for it is....

- Draft as many 2Cs in the 2026 draft as possible.
- Trade for McTavish, the guy laying in the Duck's discard pile.

If the Blues were to utilize the NHL draft like every other NHL team that would make me happy. I'm not holding my breath for that because the Blues get a financial kickback from the NHL to let the other team picks TOP10. This is speculation on my part--but it is the only possible reason why the Blues have not had any top picks in the draft in 20 years.

Carolina is glad they don’t use your dumb strategy. They are cup champs and well deserved.

Yzerman was a TOP 5 pick. Would you rather have him as GM? [That's a rhetorical question].

Yzerman ceased to be a Top 5 pick the minute he retired, and was allowed to head to Tampa Bay as GM. See my above point on the real (smelly) definition of Top 5 picks :)

To be fair, he tried moving them a while ago. Basically, it only counts as a top 5 pick of it counts as a top 5 pick, and doesnt count if Smelly says so.

In other news, I am always correct because I dont count any of the times I am incorrect. You're lucky to be in the presence of someone as infallible as I think I am!
