No. He's a regular and a pretty good poster. However, there are people that feel so little inside that they try to elevate themself by attacking someone to make themself feel superior to everyone. It's like only they can see the subtle weakness that no one else can see.

Out of his entire time here, that's the one that didn't make any sense to me. Maroon was wanting a slight raise, and he deserved one, we had the space, so it made no sense.

I honestly wonder if Maroon's partying on the day of the parade left Armstrong thinking he wouldn't come to camp ready to play. Then trying to replace him with Kyle Clifford was almost as laughable. It was the first misstep in dismantling the Cup winner, but was significant.

WOW...this has to be the record for the longest post that says exactly nothing. OF COURSE I made an argument you fool...which is that Steen is not doing a very good job SO FAR....sample size has nothing to do with it. He's been on the job 2 days but supposedly has been learning from Army from well before that. But even in that short time he's made one terrible trade, one horrible signing, and left the team with a huge hole on RW while acquiring players whose record shows that they are defensive liabilities. But buffoons like you can't stop calling people who point this out stupid names without presenting a case.

The Blues offseason did not start July 1. In a year with a weak free agency pool, they made three big trades just before and at the draft. To act like Steen wasn’t involved in those is crazy. What move were you looking for him to make on July 1 you felt was missed?

And what terrible trade did he make? The one with the Ducks at the draft which is outside the two day window you mentioned you were judging him on was not terrible.

That theory can’t be correct. From the moment they got on the plane after game 7 (think the famous pic with ROR and Maroon) to the next day at OB Clark’s, to the parade, the Vegas trip and then the entire summer I think I’m only slightly exaggerating when I say the entire organization was blotto drunk.

I was in the back parking lot at OB Clark’s the next day and the level of drunkenness was a sight to behold. I vividly remember about 4 Pm I was chatting with the Richmond Hts chief of police, who I knew, and we watched as a mostly comatose Pat Maroon was jammed into the back of a large SUV where presumably he was taken home to throw up and pass out. Chief told me Maroon had been going nonstop since the locker room in Boston on zero sleep.

ROR, Binner and Edmondson were lit up and having a blast. Think this was all how a hockey player should act after winning the cup.

This team has been softer than Charmin Ultra for years. It's a breath of fresh air seeing Steen come in and make moves that adds size and physicality to the lineup again.

They won the cup having guys play as a team and buying into the coach's system. They also weren't trying to be something they weren't. They don't have the high end skill and speed to compete with the teams that drafted super stars. They have to approach it differently.

Not sure what there isn't to like.

People seem to forget the cup team also had Maroon. He had some possession and offensive skill but a significant part of his value was his physical deterrence

Army not bringing Maroon back is still a bone in my throat and they didn't replace his physicality until now. And as sdaltons mentioned, according to reports both of his former teams considered Johnston a glue guy who was great for team culture (like Maroon too).

This signing should elevate the chippyness of the whole team knowing they've got a sheriff backing them up. Nice add by Steen.

Maroon was wanting a multi-year deal and Army didn’t want to give him that with guys like Kyrou getting ready to come up. He eventually settled on the one year deal from Tampa when he had no other takers.
You can argue whether it was the right or wrong move but there was a logic to it at the time.

I expected Steen to bring in a focus on the future. A focus on bringing in elite talent that will culminate in names on a Cup.

This would be in contrast to Army who has been trying to ride off into the sunset on a white horse, not a dirty tired old nag. The focus on the immediate was obvious and almost understandable given the circumstances.

And what do we see? Steen is F__ING carbon copy of Armstrong. Every move cements us to the middle of the pack. Our BEST, MOST CHEERED moves are the ones where we SUBSTRACT players off the team. And McTavish? McTavish is a younger Kevin Hayes. A guy brought in from another team's discard pile to HIDE OUR DEFICIENCIES AT 2C ASAP!!!!!! Not to win a CUP with!!! Nope? It's a CYA move to make sure that management's cash register keeps ringing.
