Prospect "camp"
So it's a prospect kumbaya !
Quite a turn around from past camps....not saying I don't like it but wondering a little bit about what the staff could have gleaned from seeing them play competitively this early on....and then of course us fans not being able to see them on ice as well.
Interesting approach I wonder if any other teams have a similar format.

Chicago did it starting with the Bedard draft but this year switched back to ice.

Not sure if the new format is good or bad, but I will say that it is disappointing as a fan. My wife and I love to attend prospect camp and we really enjoy seeing them on the ice in drills and scrimmages. It’s where I first saw later round picks that made me think, these guys are going to make it. Parayko and Mikkola come to mind specifically. Plus, it’s a great way to get out of the summer heat for a few hours, mingle with other fans, and enjoy some hockey. Also great to see all the young children that attend the event.dhsux wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 07:51 am So it's a prospect kumbaya !

Like I said, not complaining as they have their reasons for the change, but it is definitely disappointing.

Don't understand why they couldn't do both.
Some team building, some on ice stuff.
Doesn't make any sense to me.

A lot of teams are doing it. The reason being the Blues don't want to upset the prospects off season training and some teams don't want their players going if they do on ice stuff.

Yep. Quite a few teams are trending in this direction.billybaseball wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 08:51 am A lot of teams are doing it. The reason being the Blues don't want to upset the prospects off season training and some teams don't want their players going if they do on ice stuff.
As a fan, I really looked forward to seeing clips from this camp and hearing reports of how the players looked from those of you able to attend in person but I can also see why some teams are getting rid of the on ice portions.
Some of these players just finished their seasons around couple weeks ago and others a couple months ago. Some are deep into their summer training and others really need to get started.
Lots of kids were focusing on keeping their on ice skills up too much so they showed well at these camps and that was impacting the gains they could’ve made in the gym had that been the main focus the first month or two of their off-season.
Other kids were doing the opposite - doing their off ice workouts and not touching the ice until they came to these camps so they’d look rusty, slow etc. I’d guess it probably made them slightly more susceptible to injury as well.
In the end, teams are now wondering, are a few days of drills and random 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 scrimmages worth it? The Blues decided it’s not and I’m ok with that.
The focus this week has been on workouts, nutrition and culture. Really understanding what it means to be a Blue and what they need to be focusing on over the next 2-3 years if they want to have a chance to make it.

There’s still the rookie tournament in Sept? I know it won’t include some of the college kids but it’s still something to see the younger players.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 10:59 amYep. I get the need to do weight training, but I would think improving skating (ie more speed thru technique, increased agility) would still be important to work on in the offseason. Or is it building muscle and explosiveness, then work on translating that to skating technique closer to the season.

Yes, most of the focus this time of year should be focused on building strength, explosiveness etc. Working on fast twitch muscles, balance, agility etc. Then more in late August you get back on the ice and try to implement those gains on the ice.LGB73 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 12:09 pm I get the need to do weight training, but I would think improving skating (ie more speed thru technique, increased agility) would still be important to work on in the offseason. No "on ice" activities at prospect camp this year.stlhooked wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 12:50 pmWhat are ya‘ll talking about? What’s new?dhsux wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 07:51 am So it's a prospect kumbaya !

Only conditioning. That will change for training camp later in the year.

Oh I'm sure they are taking skating lessons. More of technique. Something I told my kid when he complained about skating lessons. When he was little he had a game out at the Mills. I was waiting form him to get out of the locker room and Matthew Tkachuk and another guy step on the ice with a trainer. I think MT was a rookie with Calgary then. Some of the skating they did was amazing.LGB73 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 12:09 pm I get the need to do weight training, but I would think improving skating (ie more speed thru technique, increased agility) would still be important to work on in the offseason. Update? Is there any video or media of this camp?
