Can't stand the thought of it but obviously ok with Jaden.
Avs know what they have in him and he could be a good piece for them.
He'll be 37 at end of contract

He was one of my favorite players when he was here. We all felt like part of his family when his sister succumbed to cancer. He was huge for the Blues for the Cup run. I am happy he's getting to do things on his terms and may win another Cup. However, I hate him going to the enemy.

With low expectations going into today Schwartz coming back here felt realistic but I understand wanting to go to a contender at the tail end of his career as the Blues aren’t there yet.
But man to go to the Avs for only 1.5M more per year and the same length as Johnson.

I myself don't believe the Avs are a true Cup contender.stlblue06 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 16:18 pm With low expectations going into today Schwartz coming back here felt realistic but I understand wanting to go to a contender at the tail end of his career as the Blues aren’t there yet.

Maybe they get some chemistry over this off season (Schwartz?) but I doubt it.
Players have a unique and inside view of things so I give Schwartz his due on his decision but not sure it's a good one.

Eh the Blues signed Johnston for a totally different reason. We have more middle 6 LWs than we know what to do with. If they needed another they could have afforded Schwartz.stlblue06 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 16:18 pm With low expectations going into today Schwartz coming back here felt realistic but I understand wanting to go to a contender at the tail end of his career as the Blues aren’t there yet.

17 is going to Colorado because he loves the state. It’s not about playing for a contender. When this term is over, he’ll be ready to retire. And he won’t leave.

Yeah, he was a great player for CC.schwartzwatch wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 19:29 pm 17 is going to Colorado because he loves the state. It’s not about playing for a contender. When this term is over, he’ll be ready to retire. And he won’t leave.
Glad he's getting a chance to revisit, but wish he wasn't playing for the Avs.

The part about you feeling like the Avs arent real contenders…I feel the exact same way. Yes, they’re loaded skill wise, but Ive seen them collapse and almost collapse numerous times when the men start playing for real in the playoffs, and they just dont scare me. Re: Schwartz Signs with the Av's
Anybody who thinks the Avs are NOT contenders, is way off base.
Don't forget they dominated a very good Minnesota team that defeated Dallas with relative ease.
And they outshot And outchanced Vegas in almost every game. Carter Hart outplayed the Avs goalies, pure and simple.
They are getting older but their window is still definitely open.
They may not be the favorites but definitely still a legit contender.
And I say this as a person who hates their team the way I used to hate Detroit 30 years ago & hated the Hawks/ Kings 10 years ago

Agreed. MacKinnon and Makar were both injured too. Colorado is certainly top heavy so they’re susceptible if any of those top guys goes down but they’re still really (bleep) good.PPG wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 09:51 am Anybody who thinks the Avs are NOT contenders, is way off base.

With all due respect MN, and you know I do respect the vast majority of your takes, they were so good they got swept in the third round.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 11:02 amAgreed. Right. With their 2 superstar players either not playing or playing but badly hampered. Oftentimes winning the Cup doesn’t just take being the best team but also some lucky bounces and staying relatively healthy.Aesa wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 12:28 pmWith all due respect MN, and you know I do respect the vast majority of your takes, they were so good they got swept in the third round.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 11:02 amAgreed. Yes, they got swept by Vegas but they still reached the final 4 teams, all 4 games were 1 goal games (ignoring empty netters) and their 2 superstars were injured. I don’t see a team that has any sort of fatal flaw. They’re still one of the top few teams in the league and most likely to win the Cup IMO.

All I will say about the Avs is that their depth is eroding some and they are starting to look really old on paper.
If they're going to do something as far as the cup is concerned they better do it this coming season.

Re: Schwartz Signs with the Av's
The Avs window is definitely closing and so is Edmonton's window.
Two very good teams with super star talent and a grand total of ONE Cup between them in the last 10 years.
Look at Carolina- their model is at least as sustainable, if not moreso, than the Colorado/ Edmonton model.
No superstars on Carolina, just lots and lots of good players who buy in to the system they are playing in and have tremendous balance up and down their lineup.
And strong goaltending.
That's basically how the Blues won.
