People are massively overrating Stenberg. And Lindstein looked good with his short sample size last year but Nikishin is a completely different level defenseman. The only reason Carolina is exploring a trade is they are LH heavy defensively already and want to bring in Carlson. I wonder if the Blues would look to move Mailloux in a trade for Nikishin.

There's next to no chance the Blues move Mailloux for a LHD in my opinion

Why?
Because he is 23 and has two years in the AHL and a year in the NHL and Jiricek is 19 and has none of that.

Because Mailloux probably starts the season on the 1st pair with Broberg.

Because Parayko is 33 with back concerns.

Because Carlo is on a one year contract.

Because the Blues are deep with LHD prospects and not deep at all in RHD prospects.

Please, look up Jake Neighbours' stats when HE was 20.

I'm not saying he's terrible but people acting like he's an untouchable is ridiculous. Nikishin is a highly touted defender with top pair potential. Stenberg is a potential middle six winger

The best talent evaluation team in the league doesn't want Nikishin after waiting years to get him here from Russia.

Red flag people. Red flag.

People here fall in love with prospects and declare prospects to be top-3 forwards or top-2 D when they have no shot at that. Lindstein and Stenberg fall into this category. Lindstein is at best a 4th D with limited offense, while Stenberg is a 3rd line LH wing long term, and the Blues are overloaded with such LH wings.

If the Blues can trade a package of Lindstein and Stenberg for Nikishin, they should be all over that. Nikishin would slot in behind Broberg long term at LD, but more importantly, he'd be the best D the Blues have by far for the power play. The biggest roster piece the Blues are currently missing is a PP D. It's a major reason our power play hasn't been good.

Plus by the time Fowler's contract ends, 1 of the Blues' younger LHD prospects such as Ralph or Fischer should be ready to take the 3rd pair LHD spot, so the Blues can afford to trade Lindstein. Even if the prospects don't pan out, a 3rd pair LHD is not hard to find.

Upcoming season:
Broberg-Parayko
Fowler-Mailloux
Nikishin-Carlo

After next season:
Broberg-Parayko
Nikishin-Mailloux
Fowler-Jiricek

This pairs a young D with a vet.

That's ridiculous. They're not giving him away. He's just available due to roster crunch and him being an RFA. They have Slavin, Miller and Gostisbehere already signed on the left side.

How are we massively overrating Stenberg he was 20 yrs old last year and

32GP 3 7 10 +3

Monty played Otto in all kinds of situations, PK immediately and he ;looked great. Hes 100% going to play in the NHL most likely right out of camp unless he totally flops and he wont. He works hard, hound on the puck, skates well, has skill. His production is going to increase same with Dvo as they adjust to the NHL.
No one should be overrating him but also there is zero logic in making any negative determinations at 20, 21 yrs old. Foolish

Saying Stenberg is an untouchable and cannot be included in a Nikishin deal is overrating him. I like Stenberg as a player but he's not an untouchable in any way

I dont see that being a logical move for the Blues to make at this point, trading assets for a position they already have with Broberg Fowler Lindstein Burns. Nikishin had a pretty good first season at 24, not a ton of data for me to say go in with chips because this guys is a must have. How do you know that in two years Lindstein isnt the better NHLer?
Is Carolina saying theyd rather have Gostisbehere who has one year left? Carolina only have 5 dmen signed and two of them are on cheap expiring deals so why are they pumped to trade this kid? Doesnt add up

Nikishin is a nice player. I'd only see a match if Fowler is headed out though. Broberg, Lindstein, Fischer, Ralph the Blues are stacked at LD and Nikishin getting minutes reduced in a cup run is a big red flag for me. And no I wouldn't trade Stenberg for Nikishin. Stenberg could be had but not for a LD.

If Fowler is the center piece, sounds good throw in a pick. Im not into trading kids yet and why does Carolina want to make this deal?

They don't. I don't think Nikishin is coming here.

Stenberg for Nikishin would be a steal for the Blues...but I doubt Carolina would do that. Stenberg is about as overrated as any prospect in recent memory.
