I thought Anderson was mediocre in the playoffs. I would have hated seeing the Blues give a guy like that an 8-year deal, but I’m happy to see Vegas do it.
Mediocre would be a compliment. He looked terrible in the finals and not noticeable before that. Since they have up a 1st+ to get him and the UFA market for defenseman is very thin, they don’t have many options

Utah had a good day today. Added Trocheck, Stenlund and Anders Lee. Good veteran adds to their youth. They gave Vegas a good test in the 1st round playoff series and they should be better this season.

While I like some of the Blues changes, Utah and San Jose have done more. The West is going to be a battle to make the playoffs.

Lol my man, I plan on doing another Ian Cole update as I have not done 1 since game 500.

I knew the Sharks had some cap space but (bleep). Marchment at 7x7 and Trouba at 8.5x4! To go along with Nurse at what 11M?

Agreed. In the salary cap era, you can have a bad contract or a bad player, but when you have both wrapped up in the same package it hurts more. He may be a good teammate, but he just isn't a good defenseman.
He’s a good defenseman, he’s just not a great dman…most NHL dmen fall into the good category versus the great category. His problem is that he’s been paid like a great dman and stuck in a poorly run organization and any mistakes he makes are magnified. Look no further than Broberg and Holloway getting out of that organization.

I would tend to agree that Nurse is not a bad player. He's a pretty decent player. But they were paying him and trying to use him like a #1 and that's not what he is.

VGK - extended Lauzon for 6 years @ $4.0m. They have $3.375m (pre-LTIR) of space left to fill 7 roster spots. Somebody will get traded.
My bad on VGK....just looked at PuckPedia and they already have plans to LTIR both Petro and Karlsson (wrist).
They can only go 10% over the cap in the off season and have to be cap compliant on opening night. Karlsson isn't going to be on LTIR all season. They will absolutely have to deal some more players and I would imagine someone is going to get Hertl or barby for basically nothing.
Why would they get them for nothing?
Vegas can't take on salary. The return will be low level prospects or low level players making league minimum. Not literal nothing thus the qualifier "basically"
Why would the futures have to be "low level"?
Would you as a GM give up anything of significance when you know they have to shed salary in order to become cap compliant?
lol well yes I'd still have to outbid the other teams. Teams are trying to get better so I'd pay the same for a player I wanted from Vegas as I would any other team to make my team better and I'd be bidding against other team so it has zero to do with Vegas having to move the player.

That is how the market works.
ok Vegas is already 5 million over the cap. they still have to sign 6 more players to actually ice a full team.

If you are going to give them anything of substance to help bail them out well then, would you like to buy a car, slightly used.
lol That is such a flawed logic, if they move a good player they will get a good return, the only thing you'd be hurting is your own team. The market will be determined by how bad other teams want/need that player not by how bad Vegas needs cap space.

That’s not true. Vegas has given good players away before. They traded Max Pacioretty away to Carolina for future considerations. Patches had 19 goals in 39 games the season before he was traded. He had 24 goals in 48 games the year before that.

They gave him away to get under the cap.

Thats not what happened, other teams didn't want him. It had nothing at all to do with vegas needing cap space.

He went on to play 5 games in Carolina and never had another even decent season. He was a once great player that was damaged goods at that point. They gave him away because he didn't have any trade value not because they needed cap space.

This is crazy that this has to be explained. The value is not determined by the trading teams cap situation, its determined by the value of the player

Regarding Vegas as to not further clutter up the quoting, I don't think they will get much for Hertl, but Barby is a great value for 2 more seasons at $5M. That'll net a return.

Utah didn’t need a McTavish ..they needed leadership and they got it. They are at a different level than the Blues right now.

The reason sometimes they don't get much is because they are trading the least valuable assets they can that come with the biggest cap hits.

Depends on how you view it. They added three veteran centers, one being more of a 4C, that combined for 113 points last season, while all being tough to play against. We’ve yet to see what we have to pay McMichael, but I’m guessing the cost for him and McT will be pretty close to those 3 combined. As I said, while I like some of the changes we made, we haven’t exactly gained ground the competition. Time will tell I guess.
