What would a trade have to include from our side and what is his contract status?

I would think at least Lindstein goes for Nikishin...would be great if they;d take Mailloux.

Craaap, after drafting Dagenais, I’m not sure we can be throwing”Dags and a 3rd” in all of these trade proposals anymore!

Massive red flag to me that they're shopping Nikishin.
Caveat emptor; especially after the concussion.

And I think I saw it reported that he is looking for big $$$$ to extend as an RFA. Not sure how much that means, but guessing it's north of $7-8.0m per year.

that's what 101 alluded to was the reason for the trade is that he wants big money for long term -

It's because they want to add Werenski...no red flags here.

I'd like to see more of Lindstein before they throw in the towel on him and the Blues prospects, but Nikishin is an intriguing player. Team around him was pretty good. Not up for trading an RD.

Gostisbehere only has 1 year left on his deal.
Perhaps the Canes don't want to give up his PP efficacy.
Obviously the return will be much higher trading Nik.

Wasn't it just a year ago that Nikishin was considered the best d-man not in the NHL?
If Carolina signs Carlson, they'll be loaded again on the back end and have L-R equilibrium regardless if they move Nikishin.

Slavin - Chatfield
Miller - Walker
Gost/Nik - Carlson

I’d be interested but also wary. He’s a RFA and wants big money. But whichever teams ends up with him will be paying mostly for potential. He will be 25 at the start of the season and has 1 NHL season under his belt.

He finished a team best +18 but it was with pretty soft 3rd pairing minutes - 18 min/night. He was their #5 d-man behind Miller, Slavin, Walker and Chatfield. In the playoffs, he was utilized even less - 14:50/game.

Carolina is run by the smartest analytics guy in the biz. If he’s shopping Nikishin, I’d be wary being the buyer as I bet he sees an asset that’s worth more on the trade market than what he’s actually worth in a lineup.

Nikishin has a lot of potential and he was a highly rated prospect for years that stayed in the KHL a long time. But now he’s a RFA with 1 year of NHL experience and he wants big money. And his GM is willing to sell high on him even though Carolina tried for years to get him to come over. The fact they’re willing to cut bait so quickly after that would give me a lot of pause.

I’d like to have him depending on the cost but my sense is his market value is more than I’d be comfortable paying. And then paying him a lot of money on top of it without much of a track record.
