Blues need toughness...AND they need competition for these rolls.
Torp and Walker are on notice.

He’s not changing the world but he’s something this team didn’t have and IMO a definite need. Tired of watching and quite frankly it’s dangerous watching the Walkers, the Schenns, the Neighbours standing up and biting off more than they should need to chew.

Agreed, and we really don’t have that element in the minors either. If a guy like Dylan Petersen eventually makes the Blues, you don’t want him trying to fill that role. He has some toughness, but nothing like Johnston. Same thing with Mailloux or eventually Jiricek. You want those guys to play physical, but nothing dropping the gloves a lot.

He skates well enough to engage a target. Old time hockey!

The water lillies here won't like the move but I said this move is necessary to help protect the young forwards.
Very much needed.

Walker has a 2 year deal around league minimum. They will send him down and he will probably clear waivers. If not, oh well. If he does he plays in the AHL and could get a call up if a fourth line guy gets hurt.

Agreed. He can skate, hit AND fight. And for the record, he had more points last year than Toro, Walker or Finley, granted in more games than Walker or Finley. Either way, he's a 4th line upgrade and starts to give that line an identity, even if only for 50-55 games when he plays.Mike Tricky wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 11:42 amThere are no guys in the league anymore that just fight. He can skate and he can hit.
Steen gets it, he was a player and he knows how valuable a guy like that can be.

Ross Johnston's 2025-26 Regular SeasonGames Played (GP): 62 Total Hits: 192 Hits Per Game: ~3.1 Penalty Minutes (PIM): 107 Points: 14 (3 G, 11 A)
He had same amount of points as Toro and Walker so don't see why anyone would (buzz) about this.

A guy like Johnston will go a long way for the guys in that locker room. It’s a much needed move for this squad

How much are we wasting on this goon? Would rather have kept Drouin because he can score.

Blues players have been asking for a player like this for a few years now. Great signing.
