All Things UFA today
Lots of action already with teams locking up recently acquired players. Free agency opens at 11am, but I expect some big trades versus lots of big signings. Won't repeat the extensions from all the other threads, but here's one I just saw.
VGK - extended Lauzon for 6 years @ $4.0m. They have $3.375m (pre-LTIR) of space left to fill 7 roster spots. Somebody will get traded.

My bad on VGK....just looked at PuckPedia and they already have plans to LTIR both Petro and Karlsson (wrist).TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 10:22 am Lots of action already with teams locking up recently acquired players. They can only go 10% over the cap in the off season and have to be cap compliant on opening night. Karlsson isn't going to be on LTIR all season. They will absolutely have to deal some more players and I would imagine someone is going to get Hertl or barby for basically nothing.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 10:25 amMy bad on VGK....just looked at PuckPedia and they already have plans to LTIR both Petro and Karlsson (wrist).TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 10:22 am Lots of action already with teams locking up recently acquired players. Panthers signing Gudas until he’s 108…ok, really, until he’s 42. Still. What a joke.

Yep, they always find a way! LOL. They reupped Luostarinen as well at $5.0 x 8 yrs. He's only 27, so that's more realistic.Backesdraft wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 10:48 am Panthers signing Gudas until he’s 108…ok, really, until he’s 42. Still. What a joke.

Why would they get them for nothing?TheJackBurton wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 10:33 amThey can only go 10% over the cap in the off season and have to be cap compliant on opening night. Vegas can't take on salary. The return will be low level prospects or low level players making league minimum. Not literal nothing thus the qualifier "basically"skilles wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 10:55 amWhy would they get them for nothing?TheJackBurton wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 10:33 amThey can only go 10% over the cap in the off season and have to be cap compliant on opening night. Hischier extends with New Jersey for $11.7 x 5 years. Good deal for NJ.

He probably doesn’t even make the team.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2026 11:19 amIf so, that spells the end for Toro or Walker. Johnston will be a much better 4th line menace than either of those two.
Other than PIM’s, he doesn’t add much.
