Its a small sample, he may not get it done but we have to find out IMO.

Finley’s faceoff percentage last season as a whole was 50.9%. Yes he was better in his 20ish games with the Blues, but that’s not going to be enough to keep him here if the rest of his game doesn’t prove worthwhile.

Not saying face offs are not important. We all saw the cup this year. I am unclear on the money for a 58% as a third line center guy. If they move him up, and you presume the Preds will is it really likely he remains at 58%

Jack Drury had a ton of PK time and a solid faceoff percentage on the best penalty killing team in the league last year. While goals are nice, if you can do those two things really well and be a part of a great unit, you will get looks and you will get paid and you will stick around. 4.5M to me is about where 2.5-3M got you 5-6 years ago, which is a slightly overpaid 4th line center and a slightly underpaid 3rd line center.

Think guys like Drury are extremely underrated around the league. Not surprised that rather than star talent from his former team he is going and grabbing the supporting cast to help supplement a decent but aging core in Nashville.

The cap jumped 22% since 2022 and is jumping to 115.5 million by 27/28 and 123 million by 28/29

That is why there is a market reset going on right now, they have announced the increases in advance so everyone knows.

So a 33% increase from 22/23 to 28/29, by 2028 4.5 million will be = to 3 million in 22/23

Half way through this deal he will be underpaid

We see this happen over and over and over

Fans think deals are crazy and half way through the deal its a bargain.

Thomas will be underpaid for like 6 years of an 8 year deal. That will not be happening as much with projections going out further,

The Avs have had to offload some useful players. I haven't kept up with their cap situation but it looks like they will be a lessor team next year.

To inject a bit more perspective, of his 969 face-offs, 739 were in the NZ/DZ. He skates the hardest minutes on the ice, and it says something about a kid who consistently starts with the ice slanted against him, but still managed to be +15.

I love hockey players that draw a line on the ice and say "this line no further", like the Sunny/Barb's/Steen line in the day...
