McTavish has the pedigree. I trust Blues management and scouting and hope they scouted him hard and talked to experts outside the organizaiton. I would have made the safer pick at 16 with Belchetz or Suvanto. However, I have never been to one of their games. I felt the same way when the Blues drafted Jirisek and Oshie. Hopefully this is a none issue. It's going to be touch playing San Jose, Anaheim and Chicago for awhile.

I didn't care for 16 either but lets be honest the level of failing to predict futures at that range is huge anyway. I don't mind them going off the board if they think they see something there and I think they have earned the benefit of the doubt.

Of course being very happy with 11 and 15 probably helps me be ok with 16

Some guys develop some dont. See jesperi koteneimi. Jeff skinner was a rock star as a rookie... I hate the fact that we traded a 16th overall for reclamation project. Hopefully he is a dynamo. Go blues!

#16 for a 2C with term is a no brainer didn't cost any prospects already picked Lawrence. Now it's on MM to train hard and come and play. He's been given a chance to make his mark and my guess he will. What does success look like l? 25 goals 60 pts is my expectations

Exactly and he wasn’t drafted 3OA 10 years ago, it was in 2021. For reference Broberg was drafted in 2019 and Holloway was 2020 and if you look at MacTavish’s stats alone I see consistency for a very young player.

He has been at a 20+ goal a year pace player every season and he was only 19 years old (January birthday) in his rookie year. I certainly remember him when/since he’s been drafted due to his last name reminding me of Craig MacTavish or is that his actual dad lol?

Anyways, I assume the Blues tried everything else and the other option would have been making all 4 picks and I like this much better. He’s at a perfect age to breakout with NHL experience most 23 year olds don’t have.

The Blues new assistant coach was McTavish’s head coach for 2 full seasons before this last season. I’d say that is a reliable insider there. MM also had his best season during Cronin’s last.

Needing to improve his foot speed and defensive capabilities for any hope at a large NHL role in the future, McTavish already wasn’t in the best standing, and he didn’t fit into first-year head coach Joel Quenneville‘s system, being scratched at times.

Fit right in

I'd think that if Cronin had any apprehensions or red flags about McTavish
he would have spoken up. It isn't like he is some rookie coach that might
be afraid to do so.

Did I hear those 2 actually battled with each other a bit? Cronin with tough love that was not initially well received by McTavish but later acknowledged and appreciated?

Yeah maybe
IF Cronin seen McTav as a 3rd line C do they trade for
him and if so would they give #15 and #29?

Has he played like it? I don't think so.
Take a look at Sam Bennett’s first 5 yrs with Calgary and his difference after, then, being traded to Florida. SB was selected 4th by Calgary and couldn’t score over 10 goals his first 5 years. Then with Florida he broke out . Not saying McT will do this but if it is too much, just don’t watch.

Well, he played best under him I believe. You have to think there was a strong yes from Cronin.

Yea your right when I was able to read WHY the Blues made the moves and how they view the picks and players it made sense to me. I am comfortable with the fact that they know McT the man more than you for instance do so now I see upside in having the kid in STL. At first I did not like hearing, slow, not in shape, didn't work out for Q then I did deeper dives. Get it yet? But I'm not going anywhere we'll check back on this when the season starts
