I read it was a bit Parks & Rec, some Stephen King, a little X-Files, and throw in some Twin Peaks and I think you get this show. There are some laugh out loud moments, some cool horror scenes, really good acting and overall, just a very enjoyable show. VERY bingeworthy. (if that is your thing)

I really liked the first few episodes, but the storytelling loses altitude quickly, IMO. The cast, especially Rhys and O'Flynn, are giving great performances.
I wish the horror elements were more inspired. Or, alternately, that the show were sillier and funnier. Instead, there are several episodes in the middle that don't move the plot forward and aren't particularly entertaining. I realize this is due to "Streaming Series Sag," but it's so bad here (and I'm so tired of hearing the Loftis kid whine) I'm not sure I'm going to finish it.
The theme of the show is a different "monster of the week", so that could be why you feel it is a bit inconsistent. I finished it, and really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to season 2.
We just finished E4 last night. I think it's pretty good so far but if it's actually only going to be "monster of the week" rather than a coherent narrative that builds over the season/series, then I'm pretty sure I'll bail out after this season. For big horror fans though (i.e. definitely not me), I can see how it would scratch an itch.

Let me clarify a little, there are "monsters of the week", with the lore of the history of the town, but there is a pretty consistent and coherent narrative overall for the show, so I would stick with it.
Just finished the finale and it was a pretty strong finish, even if overstuffed with subplots (and I guessed the twist by the 2nd to last ep).
Definitely got heavier in the last couple episodes though. It'll be quite a challenge to balance that new edge with the humor they used throughout most of the season. Spoiler
It's not just a Goosebumps knockoff anymore, there's actual stakes now with protecting his son from discovery/hunting
