The Eve of The World Cup

Post by WildBill »

It’s the eve of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For me, and for millions around the globe, it is the greatest sporting event in the world. The 2022 World Cup Final drew more viewers worldwide than the last 13 Super Bowls combined. No sporting event matches the pageantry, passion, drama, and emotion of this tournament.

Over the next 40 days, 48 nations will compete across the United States, Canada, and Mexico for the right to lift the most coveted trophy in sports. For every player representing their country, winning the World Cup would be the crowning achievement of their career.

I know many people are upset about current events and are unhappy that we are hosting the tournament. In a free society, that is their right, and I respect their views. Other nations that have hosted World Cups have also faced their own challenges and controversies. For me, I choose to set those issues aside and focus on the players, coaches, and fans who will come together in pursuit of excellence on the world's biggest stage. The other topics and controversies can be addressed elsewhere.

As always, I will be cheering for our United States Men's National Team. Winning the World Cup would be a monumental task, but that's why they play the matches. There are only two things I never thought I would see in my lifetime: an American Pope and a World Cup-winning USMNT. We’re already halfway there! 😉⚽

Whatever your feelings may be about the World Cup, no one is going to take away my joy over the next 40 days.

Good luck to our boys. Let's sit back, relax, and enjoy the Tournament of Tournaments.

Go USA!⚽

So far the best part is reading all of the Euro fans discovering what the USA is like - a lot of them are blown away and I hope they all have a positive experience while realizing that the news doesn't always get the story right.

Last world cup game I attended was a doozy the 1994 quarterfinal bulgaria -germany tilt. Great Bulgarian team with Stoikov but the come from behind winner from Yordan Letchkov still burned in my mind (as well whiny little (buzz) jurgen klinsman skulking off the field refusing to show any sense of sportmanship with his opponents). Waiting for a price drop otherwise it's games at my favorite watering hole. Gianni has done his best to ratfuck the tournament for fans. Btw in 1994 i paid 20 bucks for a lower bowl ticket at Giants Stadium.

The Germans have apparently discovered the wonders of a 1am Waffle House meal and they’re here for it.
