Maybe I'm stupid, but I actually like Noot! He's got a little pop, runs the bases well, plays solid D and has a decent OBP. Works for me.....but then again.....who the heck am I?
I think it comes down to whether you want to focus on what Nootbaar, at his best, might be, or what he probably isn't.

At the best we have seen, he's a good all-around OF. Gets on base well, hits for some power (15-20 HRs a year), plays a pretty average CF (-2 DRS in 852 IP), etc. As noted before, for 2022-2024, he was a solidly above average player based on his 3.5 fWAR per 600 PA. There should be a place for a guy like that on almost every team.

Is he going to be a 30+ HR corner OF if he plays everyday? Probably not.
Is he going to be a GG defensive OF in CF (or LF)? Probably not.
Why do you say “at his best….15-20 HR a year”? That statement has no basis in fact because he has never hit even 15 HR in a season.

Maybe you meant per the rare, elusive, and as yet unattained 600 PA in a year for the overhyped, underperforming Noot.
He hit 14 HRs in 347 PA playing in 108 games in 2022.
He hit 12 HRs in 405 PA playing in 109 games in 2024.
He hit 14 HRs in 503 PA playing in 117 games in 2023.

If healthy over a 162-game season, it's not hard to see him hitting 15-20 HR.
Some just can't handle data/facts...because they still know more somehow and of course can't admit when they are wrong...

Shady running out of prospects. Somebody started one about a guy at Peoria, Tre Richardson. Shady will no doubt have a new guy to tout tomorrow or soon.

Yes, but Shady doesn't follow plagiarism guidelines. He will copy anything without giving credit.

No one has ever understood Bernie - unless, of course, you recognize him for what he is.
As for Mootbaar, the day he returns the team gets worse, not better.

Nootbaar is not "the answer," whatever that means, but he is a very nice add for this team. You know, especially considering that we already have VSII in CF, along with whichever middle IFer they are throwing out there each game. Now you have a real OFer. And when Church comes back, assuming he can produce at least around the 90+ OPS+ mark, our OF is a lot better.

And he does a lot for the lineup. I'm hesitant to move JJ off leadoff, but you could hit him 3rd and Noot leadoff. Not sure I would hit Noot 3rd, but I wouldn't be mad if they tried. They could hit him 5th, but I think Noot's skills are getting on base rather than driving in runs. Once JJ gets back, though, I'm betting they'll hit him 5th.

Noot
Herrera
JJ
Walker
Burleson
Winn
Torres
Crooks
Church

Something like that. Pretty LH heavy, but what else you going to do? Maybe move Torres or Crooks to 6th behind Burleson and Winn slides to 7th, so you don't have like 4 LHH in a row. Not bad. Better than what we've had.

Another thought. Teams are noticing Walker. To the point of focusing on him as the offensive weapon to stop.

JJ has too great of hitter skills to not be in an rbi slot. Third in the order with a stud lead off, would produce runs, and reliever some pressure on Walker.

Great to watch Noot last night

As expected he brought a lot to the lineup

Now if we can just get VSII out of there w/Norman close behind and very little usage of P. Pages.

Who’s wrong? If you mean me, I stated facts. Matt Mitch stated something he would like to see happen which in fact has never happened.

I also liked how Matt conveniently omitted that in 583 PA last year Nootbaar hit 13 HR, not “15-20”.

A lot of discussion regarding Nootbaar and his long term role with the team and questioning if he should be starting over other IF ‘s.

IMO it’s obvious why Bloom would have Oli play Noot a ton in the next two months prior to the Aug. 3rd trade deadline.
If Noot plays well til then he enhances his trade value.
They want to see that his heels procedure was successful.
In Noot, ESPN Jeff Passan cited the Cardinals have one of the best trade pieces available. He is 28 years old (prime of career) and had another year if control as not a FA til end of 2028 season.

So Bloom is hoping Noot has 2 months of good play plus good health hopefully .
Due to his age, year of control, and lefty bat Noot may have multiple suitors. If so, Bloom could get a nice return .
So expect Bloom to have Oli play him a lot these remaining 7 1/2 weeks plus. If it goes well, then adios by Aug. 3rd final hours, if not a bit prior.
