This post is intended for people with brains who use rational thought. Do those people agree that ba just isn't what it used to be as far as an indicator of a players value? It's not nothing, just not as important? Do you same posters agree that once a good young hitter, like JJ, gets around the league a couple times and learns the pitchers and relievers, his average will go up? I do.

Baez is a slugger that strikes out a lot. It happens. Ex. Dave Kingman, Adam Dunn, etc.
Are you now comparing Baez to Kingman and Dunn?

batting average is overrated. its not useless, but it also is more applicable in some roles than others.

for a leadoff hitter, obp is more important than slg% and avg.

for a guy who hits 5th or so and often comes up with runners on base. slg% is more impirtant for driving guys in from 1b or avg is more important if he comes up with a lot of at bats with risp while itd be less important for a leadoffhitter who has more at bats with bases empty and thus obp is the most important.

I'm more concerned with OBP and he is fine there. Takes very good ABs and that's all I can ask for.
It would also be nice if he could hit like George Brett. Maybe he will one of these days.
George Brett hit .228 over his first 208 PA
So no worries. Wetherholt will end up being a George Brett-type hitter. Is that what you are hinting at? Wetherholt was heralded as a special hitter, by some, coming out of college. He may get there. Right now, he's a very good leadoff hitter. Not necessarily a special hitter. That's all I'm getting at. Spin it anyway my critics choose to. But I'm just telling it like it is, currently.
You brought up Brett you (Obnoxious person). Jesus, must be exhausting forgetting what your other personalities do.

There are many worthless ashholes that stink up CT on a regular basis. Completely Ignoring them is the only way I've found to avoid the stench.

It’s ok to say that JJ is having a terrible month at the plate. It’s also ok to say he’s a rookie and he will adjust,

But I also think none of us know if Wetherholt is going to be a great player.
