Liberatore for Arozarena

Post by ScotchMIrish »

https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ra01.shtml

.301 avg .831 OPS

https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ma01.shtml

2-2 4.40 ERA

At the moment Arozarena is producing more. Liberatore is 5 years younger which is the only advantage I see to the trade.

We are still doing this? it's beyond time to move on. There's already been 4,368 threads on this. we don't need a 4,369

It's relevant since both are still active.

completely irrelevant. trade happened years and years ago. MO is gone. the trade is done. you cannot Un-trade. You cannot have Arozarena back. You have Liberatore, this is what you have. Move on, dry your tears

Are you upset about us getting a good haul for Donovan or something? Where did this come from?

Let's revisit the Brock-Broglio trade in this thread as well, or should I start a separate thread?

But there really isn't much of a debate anymore, it's pretty well established that 1) the fWAR/bWAR gap between them continues to grow; and 2) it is unlikely that Liberatore will become be the 5-6 WAR/Yr pitcher he would need to be in order to fully close the gap over the duration of their respective current contracts.

2026 YTD (fWAR/bWAR)
Arozarena: 1.7; 1.9
Liberatore: -0.2; 0.1

Since the Trade (fWAR/bWAR)
Arozarena: 17.0; 18.6 (FA in 2027)
Liberatore: 2.8; 0.6 (FA in 2030)

The trade itself is water under the bridge, the Cardinals will focus on squeezing as much value as they can out of Liberatore in the next 3+ years regardless of what Arozarena does.

Its not relevant because the deal is done. Just like a man comparing his ex wife of 5 years to his current wife. Why bother?

If I want to look at our last good team 2022, I'd rather have Alcantara on that team than Arozarena. If we're complaining about one or the other.

Well those two players have nothing to do with each other.

I’d like to have both in 2022, but the OF was (bleep) that year, so Randy would’ve been huge

Obviously Aroz so far and likely will stay that way. That said, trades are funny. if Liberatore is a 4.25 era guy the rest of his career but has one big key win in a World Series all will be well.
