I really like Wetherholt at the top of the batting order. And his defense. If he ends up a better hitter than Burleson that would be great, indeed.rockondlouie wrote: ↑18 May 2026 10:47 am Huh?
He's off to a very good rookie start and will adjust, just like your favorite who got off to a worse start.

Of all of the holes on this team/bench, we’re questioning Weatherholt. That’s just dumb.

Wetherholt was this acclaimed fantastic hitter. But it's not at the level yet. Obviously, with a .233 BA.hornetfb52 wrote: ↑18 May 2026 11:00 am Of all of the holes on this team/bench, we’re questioning Weatherholt. That’s just dumb.

Pujols was no left-handed Ted Williams either. Why trash our players who are currently 1.5 games out in the Central and continue to win despite every team in the division being above .500. Who else at this juncture should lead off? Complaining although you have a bag of groceries under your arm and hollering that you are hungry. Who over 50 does not long for 4-5 guys hitting above .300. .280? There are not, at this juncture and will not be for any team at the end of the season. The Cardinals have a borderline -1. That is not reality so why complain, grumble, and gripe? That is baseball 2026. It's a hr/strikeout game and not a "put the ball in play and hope game. Furthermore, some pitches move so much now and are almost impossible to make contact. As a result, new stats have been created to justify .240 as being great and performance is justified. OBP is looked at more than BA. It's a different "team game," Do Your Job," with everybody player responsible for doing a team concept and not a few carrying the batter's box load. Leave JJW alone. He is fine

And negative posters should leave Burleson alone, too. "He is fine". Don't you think?LCA1951 wrote: ↑18 May 2026 11:06 am Pujols was no left-handed Ted Williams either. So I guess Burleson isn’t a “fantastic hitter,” either . . . Right?Shady wrote: ↑18 May 2026 11:03 amWetherholt was this acclaimed fantastic hitter. But it's not at the level yet. Not to mention Wetherholt has already crossed 2 bWAR, something Burleson has never done.NYCardsFan wrote: ↑18 May 2026 11:09 amSo I guess Burleson isn’t a “fantastic hitter,” either . . . .351 OBP and .757 OPS not good enough for you for a rookie lead off hitter who only spent a year in minors and has not yet played two months in MLB?Shady wrote: ↑18 May 2026 11:03 amWetherholt was this acclaimed fantastic hitter. Burleson after his first 450 ABs: .230 / .284 / .375 with a .659 OPS hitting in the middle of the order.
That was good enough for you to tout him as a perennial MVP candidate. He also spent several seasons in the minors.

Re: Wetherholt's BA is .233
Most certainly. Someone recently posted that the team should replace him with Blaze Jordan, a first baseman in 2025 but mostly playing third in 2026. I think that is purposeful and the spotlight is not on Burleson. Current application is "If it does not fit, then do not force it" approach. He is doing very well now.Shady wrote: ↑18 May 2026 11:08 amAnd negative posters should leave Burleson alone. "He is fine". I'm with you on that. However, right now, Wetherholt is not the "All World" pure hitter some advertised him to be. I'm pretty sure he'll get better with more experience against MLB pitching.

the only time he ever appeared overmatched was against Mason Miller..........and that can certainly be excuseddesertrat23 wrote: ↑18 May 2026 10:42 am He’s got 45 games at the big-league level. I don’t see anything to worry about; he gets on base, takes good ABs and rarely looks overmatched. I think it will even out in the end.

I'll remind my "Add foes" again. You can keep "peeing into the wind" all you want. But I won't dignify your trash by responding to it.
