Could Walker and Wetherholt be All Star starters this season?

Post by Shady »

I'm not sure how their positional competition is shaping up. But both seem worthy to me.

Walker---Yes

JJW---He'd be lucky to make the team but who knows if he has a great rest of May & June

Traffic jam at 2nd base w/these candidates:

B. Turang
B. Lowe
X. Edwards
O. Albies
N. Hoerner

Funny ain’t it. You can be a leading candidate for ROY, yet not sniff an AS selection.

If the Allstar game was played today: Walker, mcgreevy, and O’Brien. I don’t see them getting more than three.

Tough position to crack w/some many having strong starts to there seasons but he'll be a multi-time all-star!

Won’t he still have to compete against the before mentioned group. How does that change year by year. Age. Attrition.

Sure........... but his upside (IMO) is better than most of them.

C. Utley has always been my comp.

ROY is a full year award, while AS voting begins around the 1/4 mark of the season and ends around 50%.

FWIW, Pujols was an AS his rookie year, but missed it his sophmore year, yet still ranked 2nd in MVP voting for the full season.

The good news. The difference in said group verse JJ in performance is razor thin.

The fact that he is AS caliber, not necessarily selected, still plays.

He'll make multi all-star games in his career, may even grab the position and hold it for a decade!

Which is interesting because the position stunk the last 2 years.

2026 MLB 2B: .706 OPS (Only 1B, LF, RF, and DH are better)
2025 MLB 2B: .680 OPS (Worst position)
2024 MLB 2B: .684 OPS (Only C was worse with a .678 OPS)
