Closer look at NL Central top 3 teams

We are the 1/4 mark of the season and noticed some interesting facts about Cubs , Brewers, Cardinals trio at the top of the NL Central.

After last night's Cubs loss with Brewers Cardinals wins, Chicago leads the race by 2.5 games .
Cubs have played 42 games, the Brewers 39, and Cardinals 41 . One loss separates the top three teams.. Cubs 15, Brewers 16, Cardinals 17

Home records : Cubs have tremendous run at Wrigley going 18-5 with the Brewers having 14-8 .
The Cardinals have only played .500 ball at Busch with a 10-10
Road games: Much different picture as the Cubs are below .500 at 9-10 , the Brewers are just above .500 at 9-8 while the Cardinals have
won twice as many games as they have lost with a 14-7 record.

Vs. teams that are greater than .500 record : The Cardinals lead the way with a 9-4 record , the Cubs are next at 8-6 while the Brewers have played only 6 games against teams with winning records and have gone 3-3 .

Run differential : The Brewers lead the way with +56, the Cubs +44 and the Cardinals at just +5
The Brewers gain their advantage with the stingies runs allowed lead with 145 , the Cubs next at 173, and Cardinals at 187 runs allowed.
In runs scored, the Cubs are the best of the three at 217, Brewers next at 201, with Cardinals at 192

If one applies the adage, good pitching beats good hitting , so far the Brewers are the stingiest allowing runs in the NL Central.

Last 10 games : Brewer are 8-2 , the Cubs next 7-3 and Cardinals 6-4
Latest streaks : Brewers 5 game winning streak, Cardinals 1 game win streak, with Cubs on 3 game losing streak.

Finally if season ended now : The Cubs win the NL Central with both the Brewers and Cardinals qualifying for wildcard spots. So all 3 leading teams from NL Central make the postseason as of today.

Cubs 19-15
Brewers 18-16 (1 GB)
Cardinals 18-17 (1.5 GB)


I'm NOT saying the Cards will go on to win 105 games. But I do think it's hard to draw conclusions from run differential, win/loss at home vs road, etc. this early.

At the end of the day it will most likely be Mil, Chi, St. Louis in that order. Chi and Stl lack the pitching to get it fully done over the course of a season. Wildcard at least for one of Chi or Stl. hopefully Stl but our relief needs a lot of help and some guys still under performing on offense. There will still need to be changes to the lineup to set the ship right for Stl. What they choose to do at the deadline will matter. Do guys in AAA get call ups, or do some big pieces get traded to keep stockpiling talent?

What do the next 17 games tell us? 2 at Oakland, 3 home KC, 3 home Pitt- a mad Pitt. Don’t think that sweep set well. Reds x 3, brewers x 3, and then Cubs.

I get p i zz ed every morning after a Cardinals win only to see the Scrubs & Brewers have won too and we gain no ground.
