Doyle sets career high.. strong start to May

A Baseball America reporter on Twitter the other day said that he got a tip that Liam altered the grip on his primary breaking ball, which is his slider, I believe, before his last start and it looked much better.

Also, here's some more stats:

Doyle’s stats through his first 49 batters faced at AA: 11.17 ERA, 18.4 K%, 12.2 BB%, 16 hits.

Last 43 batters faced:
2.38, 39.3 K%, 2.3 BB%, 9 hits.

Great start yesterday vs. Corpus Christi. Something to build on indeed. Corpus Christi is the AA team of the Houston Astros, who are either 28th-30th in Farm Systems by all publications. That's some context to keep in mind when assessing starts.

Doyle has a great test again this week when he faces, Tulsa...the Dodger's AA affiliate. They put on a hitting clinic vs. Doyle and took all of offerings opposite field.

Loved the outing yesterday by Doyle...I've seen snippets, and not the game itself. You have to deal with the team infront of you and he did

Also...Doyle would be doing the same thing in Peoria that he's doing now....working on secondary pitches. He wouldn't be throwing only fastballs, so let's discard that, that...falsehood. Each level has several pitching instructors now. Doyle would have plenty of help and game plans would continue. Franklin is currently working on placing all his pitches low in the zone to induce weak contact...he's not just throwing gas to every batter

his next 3 opponents ~ Tulsa (Dodgers), Arkansas (Mariners) and Wichita (Twins)....tough test, He comes out in decent shape, then that's PLUS for him...if he comes out in pretty good shape, then it's a PLUS-PLUS....and of course, outcome doesn't really matter, it's familiarity with secondary pitches. Let's watch to see if he's getting consistent start to start

I’m not sold on his jerky mechanics. Hopefully I’m wrong but I see a lot of arm trouble in the future.

Every pitcher ends up with arm trouble.
You just hope you can get 5 good years out of him somehow

I’m sure you have statistics to back that up, but there are arm injuries and then there are career ending arm injuries.

Yeah, hope I'm wrong like I was when I was okay with the Cardinals not busting the bank for Max Scherzer for the same reason. Textbook high-risk/high-reward pick, which is alright considering how over-conservative the Cards' FO typically operates.

Yeah, hope I'm wrong like I was when I was okay with the Cardinals not busting the bank for Max Scherzer for the same reason. Textbook high-risk/high-reward pick, which is alright considering how over-conservative the Cards' FO typically operates.

Understood but given the philosophical direction the team is taking they have no real choice but to take big swings on young pitchers they can hopefully develop into the swing and miss machines they want.

They're not going to trade for any established type pitchers and have to pay them or sign them in free agency.
