Pages leads MLB in Stolen Bases Allowed
Pages leads MLB in Stolen Bases Allowed (23) and stolen bases attempted (33). 23 Stolen Bases vs 10 Caught Stealing....... I would run on him.
Those of you that back him need to face the truth. Time to take him away from Oli.

Those 10 CS also lead MLB. His CS% is 30.3 while league Avg. is 23.1. Now, if you want to take him away because he can't hit then fine. But his defense as related to SBs is above avg. The real question with stolen bases is, how many of those SBs led to runs scored that wouldn't have otherwise scored and how many runs were prevented by the CS's? SBs are highly overrated in today's MLB.kscardsfan wrote: ↑11 May 2026 08:55 am Pages leads MLB in Stolen Bases Allowed (23) and stolen bases attempted (33). 23 Stolen Bases vs 10 Caught Stealing....... He should be taken out because he cant catch or block the ball hes awful at doing the main thing a catcher needs to do and thats catch the ball. He couldn’t catch an easy pitch yesterday that was a clear strike but was called a ball because he couldn’t catch it to tatis and he ended up walking. He’s awful at catching and can’t hitrussellhammond wrote: ↑11 May 2026 10:14 amThose 10 CS also lead MLB. His CS% is 30.3 while league Avg. is 23.1. Re: Pages leads MLB in Stolen Bases Allowed
I see Pages as a “placeholder” at the position until they sort through the emerging prospects.
They don’t want Herrera as the primary Catcher as an attempt to keep him healthy because of his bat.
That I agree with!
Crooks figures to be promoted first followed at some point by Bernal & Rodriquez.
Pages long term is a backup and would be ok in that role.

And you make a solid point. But the post was strictly related to Pages' acumen behind the plate related to stolen bases. The rest of his game is indeed poor, but the poster mentioned ONLY SBs. I was simply answering his criticism of Pages' ability to throw out baserunners attempting to steal, which as it turns out is better than average. Not so the rest of his game.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 May 2026 10:43 amHe should be taken out because he cant catch or block the ball hes awful at doing the main thing a catcher needs to do and thats catch the ball. The most certainly have a plan and it's not optimizing this team now, it's for the greater good later. Which IMO is the correct way to build and maintain. I do believe they will transition on from him eventually.
We obviously have no idea how Chaim operates quite yet but I fully expect to see him "Tampa Bay Rays" in him which would mean transitioning players if it's "time".

Catcher is one of the most interesting/confusing positions in the system. It doesn't seem we have a solid plan in place. quite a few really nice prospects in the position but i have no idea where the cards are going with it.

I think people are still failing to realize that you don't disrupt team chemistry in the first step of a rebuild. Pages I like a pitching coach to these guys and you can tell he is a loved teammate. Part of this is easing the young pitchers into a transition while getting a great look at all the other catchers. Fans don't like being patient at all. I trust Bloom over an impatient fan base.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑11 May 2026 12:06 pm The most certainly have a plan and it's not optimizing this team now, it's for the greater good later. Then why are the pitchers that Herrera is catching out performing the ones Pages is? That’s the way it was expected at the start of the season.TopofthePerch wrote: ↑11 May 2026 12:36 pmI think people are still failing to realize that you don't disrupt team chemistry in the first step of a rebuild. I think the point is that the Cards see value in Pages that is not measured in his game stats.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑11 May 2026 14:03 pmThen why are the pitchers that Herrera is catching out performing the ones Pages is? Re: Pages leads MLB in Stolen Bases Allowed
My point was partly in response to the thread bragging up his leading the league in CS. Again he has had 33 attempts against him. Most all of the Catchers aren't close to that. William Contreras has also gunned down 10 in only 22 attempts. Big difference there. Contreras CS% is at .455. Fermin at .375. Cal Raleigh is at .368. Henry Davis is at.333. Pedro is at .303. Above avg yes. Nothing special.russellhammond wrote: ↑11 May 2026 11:46 amAnd you make a solid point. But the post was strictly related to Pages' acumen behind the plate related to stolen bases. Marmol has some unfounded bro love for Pages, same with Roycroft.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑11 May 2026 19:05 pmI think the point is that the Cards see value in Pages that is not measured in his game stats.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑11 May 2026 14:03 pmThen why are the pitchers that Herrera is catching out performing the ones Pages is? Trouble is we arent doing any sorting. We know pages isn’t the future yet Only Hererra is getting alternate PT.Cusecards wrote: ↑11 May 2026 10:51 am I see Pages as a “placeholder” at the position until they sort through the emerging prospects.

That I agree with!
Crooks figures to be promoted first followed at some point by Bernal & Rodriquez.
Pages long term is a backup and would be ok in that role.
RRod is already in AA and there are at least 2-3 other higher ceiling (than Pages) options older and well ahead of him yet even in a reset year we need a “placeholder” who isn’t good at anything to begin with. Doesn’t make sense.
Young catchers have learned on the job before. They don’t have to hit .300 right away. Pudge. Yadi. Many others were a lot younger than crooks and Bernal when they got their shots.
