Stanek is coming around

I ripped Stanek a week or two ago for being a wild man. This excerpt from Derrick Goold's column this morning is welcome news. My point was that he was overthrowing badly and evidently he saw that too.....



"He retired the side in order for his fifth consecutive scoreless appearance. The veteran reliever has retired 10 consecutive batters in the past week. It’s a sharp pivot from the walks and bad batted-ball luck that clouded his April.

He had 12 walks in his first 12 innings this season and two three-walk appearances.

He has one walk and six strikeouts in his past five innings.

“Early on, I wasn’t attacking the first couple of weeks,” Stanek explained. “I wasn’t attacking as much, but I wasn’t getting beat by it at that time. I think I made a conscious effort to get in the zone more after that, and then things actually got worse with results. Stuff-wise, I was throwing things in the zone. I wasn’t giving up big damage. It was just hits, and you give up those hits and a couple of walks, and things get a little screwy. I had to get back to trusting my."

My hope is that if they can fix Stanek, perhaps they can get others like Svanson in tune. Evidently, Pierpoint, whom Bloom hired is making a difference.

Fingers crossed on Stanek! I think he was signed to hopefully be the RH Setup guy but Soriano seems to be that guy now?
Bruihl does make me nervous. Shuster is a lefty also so hopefully someone can fill that role behind JoJo?
