Cardinals Bench?
Is the Cardinals bench possibly the worst bench in Major League Baseball?
We actually only have 7 starting fielders. Then you have Scott, Saggese, Fermin, Prieto and Pozo. Mostly all useless. I won’t rip on Pozo’s ability. He can’t be sharp. He never bats. Why is he on the roster? Send him down to get some abs and sharpen up.
VS2 will soon be out of baseball. Saggese should have never been in baseball. So, when Fermin is your best bench player, you are screwed.
Prieto I don’t know much about to rip on him, YET! Not yet!!!
I’m probably just mad because I lost my BetMGM bet on them.

Re: Cardinals Bench?
It’s the worse bench in MLB
Several players don’t belong on a MLB roster
It’s the state of the team

Well, it doesn’t help when guys like Scott, Pages and when he was healthy, Urias, we’re getting the lion’s share of at bats, while the rest of the bench play very sparingly! Young players need regular at bats to stay sharp. None of them have been getting that. That’s on Marmol.

Scott started nearly every game. Manager’s fault. Saggese didn’t get enough chance to make more outs. Manager’s fault. Which bench players do you think posses a shred of talent? Who is our best back up outfielder? None. There isn’t one one on the roster. Would you prefer Marmol sit JJ or Winn so Saggese can play worse D and make more outs?Hoosier59 wrote: ↑10 May 2026 20:19 pm Well, it doesn’t help when guys like Scott, Pages and when he was healthy, Urias, we’re getting the lion’s share of at bats, while the rest of the bench play very sparingly! Talented young players might need ABs to stay sharp. The Cardinals bench players could get 500 AB and it would just lead to over 400 outs.
VS2 will never hit and his defense is less than replacement level this year. Saggese will never hit and it’s very hard to watch him stumble after routine fly balls. We don’t need a third catcher. Especially one that youre afraid to put in the game. Pozo could miss the team bus and nobody would notice. I hate Fermin and he’s my favorite bench player.
Bring up a career minor leaguer. They can’t do worse. Let them make a dollar for a few weeks.

While recognizing that this team is not a finished product and the bench is probably one of the last parts to stabilize, I have to acknowledge- this is a bad bench. Accordingly, there is no harm in experimenting and giving many different players opportunities. Any improvement would be welcome.

Bench not good? I’m shocked. But who you going to bring up and let them get reduced playing time?
It’s a rebuild. And honestly for those blaming Oli you are pointing at the wrong guy. Bloom maybe.

For starters, Torres in LF at least until Noot is ready, Crooks at C platooning w/ Herrera defensively.

Re: Cardinals Bench?
Why B. Jordan wasn't recalled for the bench over the useless T. JAGesse is a bad move.
Same w/J. Crooks over Pozo.
Both could get a game a week in the field while giving Oli some pop off the bench.
(And I'm not worried about them getting playing time, neither is part of the LT future)

Re: Cardinals Bench?
The bench is weak.
By the end of the month:
C-Pages(Does Crooks get a call?)
1B- Burleson
2B- JJ
SS- Winn
3B- Gorman
OF- Noot/Church/Walker
DH- Herrera
Bench- Urias/Fermin/Scott/Pozo
Not that great but at least better. LOL
I guess Scott sticks for now? And still not sure what Pozo brings although I like his bat certainly over Pages.
Crooks???

I actually see it as the plan for the first few months.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑10 May 2026 20:19 pm Well, it doesn’t help when guys like Scott, Pages and when he was healthy, Urias, we’re getting the lion’s share of at bats, while the rest of the bench play very sparingly! The guys that they wanted to get a full uninterrupted playing time or getting it
both at MLB and AAA.
The bench players are not players of high upside missing out on valuable PT.
All while in the background Nootbaar will be on the 26.

Re: Cardinals Bench?
I’m not going to keep arguing this point, because some people’s minds are already set in stone and others just can’t grasp the concept, but most young players need regular playing time to produce up to their abilities. Nobody on the bench has received that to date. So, naturally most, if not all of them are going to fail! If given regular playing time, some of them might still fail, but a few might not. However, to continually bad mouth certain players for not playing well, and not understanding their plight, is foolish.
There have been a few veteran players who have had long careers simply because they were good at producing off the bench without getting much regular playing time. Usually when they did get starts, they were bad.

This is how you respect fellow posters? I thought you were a kind and gentle man. Instead, you make fun of the opinions of others?
