I would have Bob Gibson cause I feel his stuff would play in this era of baseball to. Love to see him pitch to Ohtani

Based on the current state of the rotation it’s hard to not pick Gibson.

But read through others. Obviously Musial fits in well. Pujols transforms the offense in ways we can only dream about.

This team desperately needs Outfielders so Edmonds and Brock would be vast improvements.

So many great other options, but since I can only pick one I have to go Mike Leake as the obvious answer……I mean Bob Gibson.

Albert or Stan or Hornsby can affect 155+ games, Gibby only 30+.

For the best bang, you have to take one of the three greatest hitters of all-time who can impact 120+ more games than Gibby.

Maybe a more interesting angle of this thread would be to eliminate the obvious Cardinal choices. Because I too find myself gravitating to Pujols, Gibby, Musial, etc.

My non-obvious choice: Ken Boyer

When you consider the upgrade they represent it's hard not to think of Rolen at 3B or Edmonds in CF instead of Scott. But the Pujols bat....

If we remove all the HOFers, then I think Jim Edmonds would be my first choice. First, he belongs in the HOF, and I can’t think of anyone else who would be that close that played for us. Second, he plays CF, so we would be replacing our worst position player who would make this offense and defense pretty great.

I’m also taking a pitcher with the same rules. I would take Chris Carpenter, with Adam Wainwright coming in second. A great ace who our young starters could learn a lot from.
