If you could have one player from cardinal history play on this team living or passed away whom would it be?

In their prime? Pujols would be the safest bet inasmuch as he's the greatest player that has played most recently to this era. So you know his skills would most likely translate to 2026.

Agree. I suspect Pujols would produce like his first 11 years in St. Louis. Musial and Hornsby played in an era when the average pitchers were less advanced. I believe those two could still thrive in any era, but not quite to the level they did in their era.

Maybe a more interesting angle of this thread would be to eliminate the obvious Cardinal choices. Because I too find myself gravitating to Pujols, Gibby, Musial, etc.

My non-obvious choice: Ken Boyer

When you consider the upgrade they represent it's hard not to think of Rolen at 3B or Edmonds in CF instead of Scott. But the Pujols bat....

Or even further down the line, how about peak Lankford or McGee?

I would have Bob Gibson cause I feel his stuff would play in this era of baseball to. Love to see him pitch to Ohtani

It's almost absurd to NOT say Musial, but I'd choose Gibson, too. And not even so much for the quality of his pitching, but for the fire, intensity, and intolerance of bull[shirt] in his teammates. The modern ballplayer, hence the modern clubhouse, is soft. Gibby would not only be the ace pitcher on the staff, but he'd be like the Marine drill sergeant for the rest of the team.

Gibson was my first thought followed by Tudor and Chris Carpenter. Any of those three would be great leading the young pitchers.

Based on the current state of the rotation it’s hard to not pick Gibson.

But read through others. Obviously Musial fits in well. Pujols transforms the offense in ways we can only dream about.

This team desperately needs Outfielders so Edmonds and Brock would be vast improvements.

So many great other options, but since I can only pick one I have to go Mike Leake as the obvious answer……I mean Bob Gibson.
