Stan Musial … imagine him following JJ and Herrera in the 3rd spot ahead of Walker …. Wow!
Epitome of bat to ball skills.. what a great mentor for rookie JJ to be even better watching Stan The Man every game. Also the RBI increase for JWalk with Stan on base at such a high rate. Walker would love it !
So would all the fans !

In their prime? Pujols would be the safest bet inasmuch as he's the greatest player that has played most recently to this era. So you know his skills would most likely translate to 2026.

Easy. Young Pujols or Young Molina.

I'd want to say Gibby because of what he would bring to the young players about how to play the game but I'd likely choose Stan for his 5 strong tools every day and even though quite different from Gibby's his own presence and impact on the roster too.

Pujols, but he would have to play third, Burly has got 1B locked down. Gibson would be a game-changer too.

We’re it not for the fact we have no other good alternative for 3rd I’d say moving AP to 3B because Burly has 1B “locked down” cracks me up, however, given the situation, I see your point.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑10 May 2026 09:11 am Pujols, but he would have to play third, Burly has got 1B locked down. Maybe a more interesting angle of this thread would be to eliminate the obvious Cardinal choices. Because I too find myself gravitating to Pujols, Gibby, Musial, etc.
My non-obvious choice: Ken Boyer

When you consider the upgrade they represent it's hard not to think of Rolen at 3B or Edmonds in CF instead of Scott. But the Pujols bat....

Pupils, Stan, Hornsby, Gibson are obvious choices, but i will take a flier on Willie McGee. One of the best defensive CF in cardinal history (sorry Edmunds) and could generate runs. Plus Willie had ice in his veins. Bigger the stage, the bigger his game.
