Franklin, Doyle, Mathews and Crossland all starting tonight

Post by ClassicO »

Mathews is imploding early. Bad control and has the bases loaded in the 2nd with one out. He looks terrible. 41 pitches with only 4 outs... Ugh.

Max Clark on Hens hits a 420' double off a Mathews meatball - 4-0 Mud Hens. Looked like the ball went out but they couldn't verify.
Now Mathews walks DeJong. Double ugh. Bases loaded and they are leaving Mathews in. Now a 2-run single and it's 6-0.

Mathews is a long way from being a MLB starting pitcher.
I warned about this.

Crossland has a no-hitter and has gone 3 IP -- but he's walked 3 and allowed 1 ER on 2 BBs, a SB, and a SF.

Crossland pulled after 4 IP, no hits, but 6 BBs and 6Ks—crazy start.

Doyle looks incredible. 5Ks in 2 IP, 0 hits. His curve and slider are both good and his fastball is exploding.
My concerns are assuaged.

Another 1-2-3 inning for Doyle. Curve is great for 6th K. Two weak outs on infield as well.

Doyle breezes through the 4th. Two more Ks, again overpowering FB, and got 8th K on what looked like a change-up. Gave up one hit.

Franklin a good first inning. Love the uniforms.

Doyle gets fly out, gives up two singles then a balk, and ground out scores a run. Still looks good.
Bummer - gives up a soft single over 2b. 2 runs.
They're leaving him in - and runner is out stealing. 5 IP - big success.

Sweet it can’t be easy going from college to AA that’s why I’m not worried about growing pains particularly when he’s developing his secondary pitches

Franklin gives up a run in the 3rd. Blew away the last batter with 96 mph on the outside corner.
Clearly, Doyle, Franklin and Fajardo have big league strikeout stuff.

Tai Peete just struck out, missing the ball by 2 feet. Ugh. Pray his pitch recognition improves and he'll be something.

Franklin's breaking ball gets him another K to start the top of the fourth. The TV angle for this game is awful; hard to see pitches well.
