That's missing the point entirely. The issue here is the system that exists which perpetuates, enables, and covers up these scandals. Team Canada had a slush fund to cover these things. Not all of them were cases of consensual buggery. This is a decades and decades old problem. Is there a contradiction with teenage behavior and society's norms? Absolutely. What we need addressed is the culture and system built up around the sport which enables this sort of thing. We can't control or alter teenage brains, we absolutely can control and alter the environment which they are socialized into as part of being an athlete.
I'm gonna bet they were absolutely almost 100% "cases of consensual buggery"

They only difference between them and a lot of teen males is woman say yes more often.

I mean seriously what do you think is more likely?

1. Five elite male hockey players that have no problem finding hook ups but are all into gang raping women instead happen to be hanging out together

2. One female happen to be ok with hooking up with 5 elite star athletes?

Keep in mind I'm not assuming she lied or accusing her of it....the female judge did that not me.

Of course they have to have a fund to cover these things, they are trucking teenage boys around the world partying it up. I'm sure they cause all kinds of trouble.

I grew up with some guys that ended up having a very popular band, the only difference between them and most teeage/early 20s guys was women wanted to do crazy immoral things with them.

That is the problem with the star athlete "culture" women let them.

Women do immoral things to.
The problem is women let them? That's what you think the problem is? No agency for structural change or responsibility just blame the dumb kids biology and not only that continue to cover it up and don't even question the slush fund because ya know, nature? Yikes.

You think sexual assault is about being able to find willing partners? Another yikes.

I'm no longer engaging with you on this, massive respect loss though. You are part of the problem.

My goodness we have gotten so dumb as a society.

Its not sexual assault(as indicated by the actual court of law) when they all want to do it....good grief.

The problem is not that women let them do it.......its that they all 6 wanted to do it.

This faint outrage nonsense is why it can't even be discussed rationally.

You are actually the problem. The problem can't be addressed at all until we accept that this is a problem with young men AND women.

Also you are taking my words out of context. I never said women letting them was the problem. I said that was the problem with what you are blaming on "privileged culture" other teenage boy are not doing this because women don't say yes to them while they do say yes to elite athletes, musicians etc.

You are over heroing, this woman wanted to do it just like they did then she played the victim, went after their money, and was found to be lying about it in the court of law.

I'm not defending any of it, I'm simply speaking of it with logic and not emotion.

You can't even begin to scratch the surface until you accept that many teenage boys AND girls want to do exactly what they did and they are also highly prone to lying and not taking responsibility and blaming others for their choices.

Are you intentionally being obtuse?

For the 10th time you're ignoring the 5 v 1 facts. You're ignoring the impact that ratio had and how they were treating her impacted her decision making. She didn't leave the bar with all 5 of them.. she left with one and that one is the one that invited his teammates/friends to join in.

And once again take the legal part out of it, if you can't see how the group of 5 took advantage of the situation and absolutely should have not let what happened happen then you need some serious soul searching.

You guys appear to drifting out of focus here. The specific topic of this thread is Dube and his apparent readiness to step back into the NHL.

Yes, there are broader issues of the systemic problems within the Canadian Junior hockey program, which reportedly/presumably have been addressed, and broader societal issues (a very dangerous topic to address in this forum, likely off-limits).

But the core issue at hand is what should the Blues do in regard to Dube? That has been pretty thoroughly debated here, and yet it's likely to draw even more commentary at each decision point. None of us make the decisions. None of us. We should observe, comment if we choose, and move on.

Personally, I think it's time to put this to rest.

The Blues, the NHL, and the court of law have already decided on the issues being discussed. The only question really left should be is he good enough to bring in? On that I think probably so.

Definitely went a direction, I didn’t think it would really go. To me, he’s made the most of his PTO. I can only assume that the Blues are making sure everything else is good with him and I’m sure Ott has been in communication with Army and Steener. Is there a place for him on this roster next year..I believe there. Have to think there will be a spot come training camp. Would seem silly for the the Blues to not offer him a two way deal since he’s already repping their brand now.

Just for the record I'm not defending any of what went on, I simply don't think there was any sexual assault by anyone involved. I also think almost every teenager engages in what we deem immoral behavior and that the human body and brain development dictates that Both male and female. Some get caught and some don't, some are in the spotlight and some are not.

I personally think all 6 of them have been more negatively effect by the spectacle of it than the act itself.

Ive not said anything of that nature what so ever. I don't think she deserved to be assaulted, I don't think assault is ok, and I don't think she was assaulted at all.

Which is also what the courts, the NHL, and the Blues seem to believe unless you think they believe they really assaulted this girl and are just ok with it.

The problem is you are still stuck on things that you have no evidence of and talking like I said she ask for being assaulted and like the court finding I think she was a willing participant and wasn't assaulted at all.

I simply agree with the people who have access to all the evidence.

My opinion is not at all boys being boys, its teenagers being teenagers(or early 20s) all 6 of them not just 5.

The court/judge did not just find that that the crown failed to prove is case beyond a reasonable doubt. It also found the the complainant exaggerated her intoxication level, filled memory gaps with assumptions and gave false testimony in direct contradiction with video evidence

I think you're falling into trap of [partially] your own making. Regardless of whether you are right or wrong, regardless, the girl was not on trial. She was testimony, evidence. The Judges's comments indicate strongly that the veracity of her testimony was questionable and it did not tip the scales to conviction of the defendants. At that point, it's over. Everyone walks away, her and the defendants, unless she tries to sue them in a civil suit. Criminally, the players are innocent. Morally? Who knows. Those points were not litigated beyond the criminal trial and the various institutional investigations and reports. They all walk away, go on with their lives as best as they can. In the real world there isn't always certainty of knowledge or closure to everyone's satisfaction.

I have never argued that anyone involved was morally innocent. Quite the opposite actually.

The only trap I'm falling in is arguing with fools.
