Is the rebuild becoming built sooner.

Post by sikeston bulldog2 »

Good morning.

When do you look at a rebuild and say- we’ve made SUSTAINABLE progress. 36 games? First place? Wild card position? Division champ? NL pennant? WS. When.

The reason I ask, once the foundation is built next comes the erection. The build up. The add to. Are we still here? Do we even need an outside add?

I feel we have built the foundation. The only thing to measure is sustainability. Can the play like this for 130 more games. Duration.

We are well ahead of expectations. At some trigger point you check the block and move to another phase. In our world, that’s adding to the team.

Chemistry. You can’t be tighter than this group. Do you add? Or stay the course. Let sleeping dogs lie.

When does a rebuild shift gears.

No. I was clear on my definition. A add on. A build on. You erect a building. While it’s built it’s under erection.

Are we there now sooner than the model projected.

I've said all winter BDOG:

2026 Team > 2025 Team

And unlike his predecessor, C. Bloom was capable of walking (re-building the minor league system----DONE!) and chewing gum (building a winning 2026 Cardinals team---appears to be well on it's way to being done).

But they're still missing some pieces, namely starting pitching and bullpen pieces.

The chemistry you mention is among the core, that won't be touched.

But fringe pieces (aka Saggese, Pozo, Bruihl) can easily be replaced and upgraded w/o disturbing that chemistry.

Will Bloom stick to his L-T plan and deal some pieces (re: May, JoJo & Noot), very likely and possibly even O'Brien.

But could he also seek to add a reasonable trade piece to the pen' w/o dealing any prospects he see's as having a future here (aka Saggese), sure.

I think the re-build is well ahead of schedule.

It's going to be interesting to see what direction Bloom takes in June/July.

Of course, the moves will be dictated by that L-T plan and where the Cardinals are in the standings mid-late July.

Stay tuned and for now ENJOY! :D

You’re killing me. We sit fourth in records. We are playing good ball. Do you do something in left yet. And is third solid.

At some point, this team has to be taken seriously. Where’s that bench mark.

Sorry to pick at you but I have no idea what the model projected and how close the team is to becoming constant winners, one of those few who consistently compete for championships, the kind no one else wants to face.

All I can say is so far so good. They've exceeded my expectations. They're on course to win 97 games and even though they don't look like a 97 win club, don't tell the players. To be fair they don't look like a 73 win club either which was my prediction.

It took the team years to become a boring, aging, non-athletic non-contender and it'll take more than 40 games to get themselves clear of that hole. Let them go for it. I'll be happy to be surprised the rest of the year.

I am, as are others. Many bought into a rebuild. Ok that’s cool, myself included. Still there.

But now, we are seeing truths. Things that won’t change.

There are trigger point built into the new model. The only thing that triggers them is actions. Then time to move to a next trigger:

My question- at this point is it still a rebuild, or can we transition into another phase.

It’s cool. I changed the OP just to be clear on intent.

As for predictions- i threaded yesterday our last 49 games of season. A VERY favorable schedule. On a roll, we could go 30-19 ish in the heat.

If we can sustain for another 75 ish games, this will be something:

Many commentators would not call it a rebuild including some Cardinals. I considered it a salary dump and a cleansing of longer term contracts. I still believe the team is being positioned to sell. Call me crazy, but I do not believe this team will sustain a .600 winning avg. And I do hope I am wrong!

Your position stands well respected. A sell would be fun. Much to conjure up. As for predictions.600, that’s Strong.

I’ve always admitted to being an optimist.
Only 1/4 of a season played but certainly encouraging so far.
Fun team to watch but still have realistic expectations.

Explain/ realistic expectations. .500 finish? Worse?
