He is starting to have the look of a leader, and the way he hustled outta the box to turn that hit in to a double is a sign of a leader.

That was a sign of leader. The kid can really lay the wood on the pitch.

He doesn't always have to hit homers to be really effective. He has taken some OPPO singles to knock in runs in this stretch too. His D is better and he also is throwing to the cut off man and right base almost always now. Teams are not running on his arm much. All good signs.

Agree with Talkin' that this is a completely different team with Walker playing at this level. Also we have a real lead off hitter who is a very good defensive second baseman.
Him busting it out of the box was very impressive.. In baseball, they call the term is a 'hustle double' . Most guys are satisfied with a base hit on that same ball but with his excellent speed , he knows he might get to 2nd safely . That effort not only puts him into scoring position but sets quite the example for the guys on the bench watching him hustle like that .

This is what happens when a stud is added to middle of order……..it doesn’t take 5-6yrs of Rebuilding….a couple more productive MLB players and we’re good to go. And they’re probably down on the farm now
So no longer talking trash about him like when you were posting all those laughing emojis and saying how right you were when he went into his slump? Now you think hes a stud? Or just waiting on him to slump again so you can post some more laughing emojis and talk trash some more about him?

One of my favorite aspects of seeing JW succeed, is the fact that the kid seems so truly humble. He seems to genuinely be a great person who has had the 1000-lb gorilla lifted off his back. For me, it makes it even easier to like and root for his success. He was still very courteous and humble during his struggles, but this year he has added the having fun again aspect of playing the game. Last year, and even in the Spring, the kid looked like he was having anything but fun. Keep it going kid!

He’s a must see at bat now. Before you could do other things when he came up but now I put down what ever I’m doing and pay attention.

Careful with that hamate bone as hard as he swings.

Yes - one of many improvements in his at bats this season.

The team severely needed at least one of JW or NG to emerge or any
turn around would take a long while. By having at least one emerge, at least
if the other one doesn't they will know what they need.

Maybe I'm making things up-but it could also indicate he's seeing the spin of the ball better-recognizing the pitch when he's looking for one pitch but gets another? Just a thought.

Walker

179 OPS+

Ohtani
6 HR

Who would thought on May 8th Walker would be hitting better than Otani and by a lot? 8O

Someone needs to check his view from his Living Room and Bedroom.
Maybe some branches need to be trimmed?
He does provide nice emojis though!

I agree. He’s a very smart baserunner. I was at the day game last week and I watched him steal second. He got a crazy jump on the pitcher and I knew after a few steps that they didn’t have a chance. The catcher didn’t even bother acting like he was going to try and throw him out. He’s also always is looking to take the extra base. It reminds me of Pujols and his aggression running the bases back in the day, except Walker is actually fast as hell.

All I know is that I’m extremely glad for runway seasons.

It's transformational when a player is allowed to be themselves and relax. There aren't any minions sitting at your locker when you show up everyday, telling you what to do and trying to mess with your swing. Data is now being used properly and not as a weapon with your punishment being where you bat in the order, extra batting practice, days off that you don't need. The reason this team is excelling is because MO IS GONE. It's not that these players suddenly got it, it's not that Oli is suddenly a good manager.

Now the question is are the changes the Cardinals making melting the iceberg in Jordan's heart about the team and whether he's not going to take a home team discount, sign a reasonable extension or if he's going to free agency to get OUT. This is another MO mess that we will have to see where it lands.

Explain more about which minions of Mo were messing up Walker. Who and what were they doing specifically? And how are they using data that is different from years past? Also, explain more about how they punished him?
